Any suggestions as to who it might be? Paddy O'Connell perhaps.... (although with it being a serious news show etc. he'd have to go back to calling himself Patrick)

I think I just quoted you in the "Celebdaq drops main presenters" thread saying that BBC 3 are ready to announce a new show for Paddy. You know what, I really think you might just be right- and he would make an excellent choice. He can definitely handle serious news as we saw in his old business job, and more recently in his Radio 4 work.

Paddy for 7 O'clock News!

The only good feature of BBC3 7 O'clock news is the bit where you see other news broadcasters around the world and what stories lead their news programmes.

Extend this to 4 minutes, put in a longer wodge of the opening titles, music and establishing shot of the set - and I'm sure the 7 oclock news will pick up a few extra viewers from this web-site alone!

Oh I think I can safely say that section of the programme will be longer when Eddie joins.

. . . big breakfast type show, where it's purely entertainment to run for an hour . . .

BBC THREE has pretty much already done that with the format of Celebdaq, except for two things . . .

(1) It's only on for half an hour.
(2) It's a steaming pile of pants!

It seems from the listing guides that the new 7 o'clock news with Eddie Mair (and the expanded studio) launches on the 10th May

Yes it's the same Eddie Mair ... now of PM fame on R4 and before that 5 Live.
And yes the new programme starts on the 10th of May.
Be interested to see what you all make of the new studio!

Interesting. Will they be taking up the studio space occupied by Liquid News? At one point their were many shows using that studio all in the same week (the morning show, liquid news, 7 o clock news/60seconds and celebdaq), where as now it'll just be one.

Are they relaunching the show in anyway Nicky (Other than set)? New music, graphics, style of the show? Or will it be the same show in a bigger set for longer?

And going back to an earlier response, how was Celebdaq a general entertainment show? It was a show about the celebrity stock market that they created, with entertainment features included, the 7-9 slot is still bland without liquid news, it was even better with Live at Johnny's!

Why on earth aren't they promoting the new show in the Week 19 PI, especially considering it's supposed to be one of the 'highlights' of the Spring & Summer Season, and a major new show for BBC Three?

Agree about the timeslot. 7pm is a pretty bad slot. Especially considering it's supposed to be becoming more of a serious news programme, it's going to be head-to-head with Channel 4 News. I don't think many people are going to choose to watch BBC Three news over Channel 4 News, whether they're in BBC3's "target audience" or not. I think 8:30 would be a better time.

While we're at it - I wish BBC Three would just ditch that EastEnders repeat. I'm sure it pulls in loads more viewers than normal, but it's hardly fresh and innovative, is it? It doesn't fit in with BBC Three at all these days, and it splits up things like the 'Tuesday comedy night' turning them more into 'Tuesday comedy night with some EastEnders in the middle which just spoils the whole thing for everyone'.

I hope you'll all be watching on Monday - I shall be expecting comments ... good (hopefully) and bad (probably) ... I really think you'll like the new set.
