Yay! We didn't get to see the ident (nor did we get an explanation of why someone was carrying a clapperboard around for a live broadcast) but it was great to hear the jingle playing just before they went back to Simon "filled out a bit, hasn't he?" Bates on the ward. They even went to the bother of painting up a bloody great big lorry with the appropriate Tyne Tees logo.

Well, that's the best "The Royal" is ever going to get... no point in anybody watching it again after that! Razz

When is The Royal meant to be set? Yorkshire TV started in 1968, and the Royal is set in Yorkshire, so if it is set post 1968, then should it not have been Yorkshire TV doing the broadcast, not Tynes Tees. Considering the programe is made by Yorkshire, you'd think that they would know when they started broadcasting.

But is it in North Yorkshire, where they still watch Tyne Tees?

You get Tyne Tees in the North East and North Yorkshire, hence the old saying: "You're watching Tyne Tees, serving the North East and North Yorkshire."

Heartbeat was first set in the first series in 1960. Each series they progressed a year. Until they'd done ten, and since then every series has been 1969. As the Royal follows on from the current Heartbeat series (as you sometimes get crossovers of Hearbeat characters, i would think that its set in 1969. Though it could be set earlier.

Did anyone notice on last nights the amount of snow around. And the very long shot of the hospital that appeared to be covered in snow? It must have cost a fortune. But it was lovely to see it. If only they could do this across the country for christmas, or create a machine that could make it snow. If only!

I think Heartbeat was originally set in 1964, and has since moved on at roughly a year every two series. The series before last was very firmly set in 1969, but they seem to have backtracked somewhat as the most recent series had the Torrey Canyon disaster as a plot point, and that was in 1967.

I know this has mentioned before, but why don't they go to the 70's ?

So, did Granda "in the North" and/or ABC "Your Weekend TV" ever get a mention previously?
