Well I watched 60 Seconds for the other night and I'll be completely honest- I thought it was rubbish. I apologise to Nicky who works on it if I remember correctly, but there are several things about it which just don't do it for me.

The music is awful! It just does not fit in with the program. Something louder and faster is needed. The presenter (the bloke) didn't look or sound the least bit interested in what he was saying. The program needs a lively presenter, someone like Edith Bowman for example. I learnt absolutely nothing from watching it. It's all very well saying 'you can find out more on the website' but that's just lazy! If that is what they want us to do, then why don't they just stick up a static screen with the website address on it for 60 seconds?

The program is a very good idea, but the time isn't used properly. Having the current story written at the bottom of the screen is a waste of space, this could be used to show other stories instead. The program looks very nice though, I'll give it that!

Anyway, that's my rant for the night.

Remember, the blind and deaf need to be accounted for in terms of television too!

That's what subtitles are for!

How is a blind person going to know what is on the bottom of the screen?

What a great idea, a braille TV.

All right, just the deaf then...

I just don't like 60 Seconds' theme. It doesn't go with most of the BBC News music with the 'blip's. At least they should incorporate that in the theme.

I think that would just confuse the hell out of most people. The idea of the split screen panel is to give you some extra information about the story and the pictures that go with it, the viewer only has time to read about 3 lines. If you start chucking an additional series of headlines at them there's no way any normal person would be able to take it all in.

The panel of one word headlines on the left is quite clever too because its a nice teaser to get people to look at the website to see the other stories.

I was perhaps a bit negative in my comments about 60 seconds when it first launched, but since then I have grown to like it a lot more.. I only occasionally watch the TV broadcasts, but the daily email update is useful and the website often carries stories you wouldn't find elsewhere.

How do you work that out? Sky Sports News manage to have three sets of text on screen at any given time as well as the main program. I know I have no problems watching it.

Anyway, on 60 Seconds, the text just says what the presenter says. I didn't bother to read it.

Interesting to read your comments.
The text box at the bottom always gives different or extra information to the story - it certainly shouldn't be the same words as in the script. As to having a totally different story in that box I think personally for the 9 seconds it's on screen it would be very hard to take in that while listening to another story ... maybe wrong.
As to the music .. had nothing to do with that ... but I think it's meant to be more in style with Choice as a network rather than the generic BBC News stuff. Just like Newsbeat on Radio 1 has beds in keeping with the network not BBC News.
The bulletin is meant to be a teaser for the content on the website ... I don't see anything wrong in that. I think it's unfair to say you learnt nothing from the 60seconds .... many viewers to Choice won't have seen any other news bulletin and so it would give them a quick digest of the main news, sport and entertainment with the chance to log-in for more information.
A number of people have said they like our daily e-mail and I now notice that NewsOnline is now offering a similar service.

And on a serious note all comments good or bad are welcome .... it's all an evolving process isn't it!

Yeah, sorry about that. After reading my original post again, I realise that some of the things I said were a bit unfair. I probably didn't learn anything because I'm a news junkie and had already seen the news!

I'm sure in a bit it will be great, but it just needs a few tweaks here and there. It's a good idea though, but perhaps 120 Seconds would be better? Nah, maybe not.
