BTW - watched the first MelodiFestival 2005 last night. Fab! Those Swedes really know how to put on a music show!

They hit on a great formula a few years ago - and are evolving it beautifully every year. The set this year was stunning - and the direction and camerawork were, if anything, better than some of the recent contests (apart from the wobbly railcam)

Can't wait until I get to see last week's show!

I loved the way Alcazar emerged to sing their song out of a giant mirror ball!

hey,
i have to say that this weeks swedish melodifestival was rater dissapointing! Not really a single good song.... But I do agree that last weeks show was quite alright, I liked Nordman and a girl with brown hair (dont know her name, and who cares), but I'm still waiting for that really catchy, can't get it out of my head song....

Being swedish and all, we tend to take the eurovision song contest very seriously, the whole country becomes obsessed with it during the spring. i'm quite fond of it! Laughing

Austria chose their participant for the Eurovision last night and the result was a bit of surprise. Alf Poier decided to try again for the country (he performed for Austria in 2003 with a silly little song, how I laughed) but his actions this year made me realise what a total fool he was:
esc today posted:
"If Hotel hotel wins, then I don't go to Kiev," threatens Alf Poier. "Then I will send a video tape like Elfriede Jelinek did at the Nobel Prize for Literature." ORF however seemed to be prepared and reacted that if Hotel hotel wins and Alf Poier sticks to his decision, the Austrian runner-up will be send to Kiev. On top of that all Poier will face a penalty of 160.000 Euro.

But ORF fears more than just that. Alf Poier has introduced the Serbian word picka (a vulgar word for vagina) in the lyrics of Hotel hotel. ORF kindly begged Poier not to use the word but fears Alf Poier's participation tonight. "Poier is a ticking time bomb," says ORF. "We are all nervous and nobody knows when to expect his next insane action."

Song.null.fünf takes place tonight in Vienna. Five participants will compete for representing Austria in Kiev and will sing two songs each. Alf Poier's latest move is clear. He wants everybody to vote for his second song Good old Europe is dying...

Well wel. That was yesterday anyway but in the end he didn't get chosen thank goodness! Instead a quite wierd band called Global Kryner won with the song "Y así" which is really quite odd but I think it's fantastic!
Download the song: here...

Liking Austria's, but my 12 points will be winging its way over to Malta this year with another cracking ballad from Chiara who came so close to winning Eurovision in 1998.

Met her a few years back in a kind Maltese Eurovision reunion party which was happening whilst I was there. She was very down to earth.

The link is below if anyone one is wanting it, very tinny however.

Digital Spy:

"Jordan in feud with Eurovision hopeful"

" Glamour girl Jordan has a new enemy - her fellow Eurovision Song Contest hopeful, Javine.

Both Jordan and Javine are hoping to represent the UK, and Jordan has already branded Javine, who will compete against Jordan with a track called Touch My Fire, "a silly cow".

"It's a shame Jordan feels the need to keep bitching," Javine told the Sunday Mirror. "Eurovision is all about the song and the performance, and I'll focus on that.

"We all sing live on the night - so I'll look forward to hearing her." "

Of course Jordan will be about 8 months pregnant by the time of the contest - that could be interesting - if she wins MYMU. I think Javine is by far the only hope we've got...

Yep - I love the way each act gets a little "gimmick". Pay-TV had their plasmas, Alcazar had their mirror ball, others got wind machines or oceans of dry ice!

Have now seen the second show as well. This time I wasn't quite as impressed with the quality of songs. The three that stuck out were the two winners - but I also really liked Bodies without Organs, which didn't even get to the Second Chance round. I'm still not sure if they were being ironic or not...

Absolutely love the show though - even though I don't speak a word of Swedish!

You see Nordman did nothing for me. Alcazar were their normal selves - again the boys singing a lot better than the girls, live at least. (I'm a bit of an Alcazar fan...)

However I also liked the second song, which was sung by the girl drowning in dry ice. It had a really wistful quality (though didn't get into the final or the second chance round) - and I also liked the other second chance song from round 1, another bouncy hinrg number.

One thing that has been interesting me - which you may be able to help with. There are two phone numbers, one bottom left and one bottom right, and one is cheaper than the other. Is one a text number and the other a normal phone number?

That is a really lovely song, and she's got a great voice. I still think she was robbed in 1998 - just a pity she was up against Dana International.

It has all the ingredients of a good Eurovision number, a kind of middle 8 thing, a bit of light and shade, and a bit she can really belt!

I'd read Austria had chosen an interesting entry - they have indeed...

Yep - and they've had some good placings as well - top 5 quite a few times. Think the last really good showing the UK had was with Imaani in 1998?
