I never understood why it was so popular - none of the glyphs I made in that font were exactly accurate! The fonts that Martin (I think it was) created were far superior.

Hmm, I remember that one, the page with that and other fonts on is still up, but the links are dead.

I often think it's funny how the '2' really worked as a brand and yet the '1' that was introduced in 1991 never really worked. They tried, there were many interval stings and animations as well as using it in exactly the same way top left on slides and menus and yet somehow because they stuck with the globe rather than doing anything really clever with it, it was eventually quietly dropped...

The interesting thing with the "1" figure is that for the first two years or so they didn't really try and use the figure itself in the same way as the "2" was, other than obviously branding on the globe/trailers/slides. The trailer bumpers were generally live action from what I remember. It was only around summer/autumn 1993 that the stings you show were launched, presumably trying to recreate the success of the "2" idents.

And of course the 1 got to break out of the globe at Christmas too, though not in the first year. I quite liked it and thought they used it well, but it would have looked awful in conjunction with the balloon. Might not have been so bad if it had appeared within the scene with the dancers though - but they'd still have been rubbish idents.

Could have, maybe, used the '2' balloon, in amongst the 'regular' balloons, though Very Happy
Possible ident(s) for use with the forthcoming relevant programming?

The '1' was always meant to be used differently. The styling of it was deliberately more conservative to fit in with the style of BBC 1 at that time. It looked fine to me, sitting in that top left corner and complimented the more fun and quirky two very well. Whilst not to the same high level as the BBC 2 presentation, the '1' did well for itself when it managed to be freed from the globe; around Christmas time and in certain promos and stings. I think we only didn't care so much when it went because the balloons were such a breath of fresh air, bringing multiple idents to BBC One for the first time. Also, we were probably all relieved that the existing BBC Two presentation survived largely in tact.

BMG? Warner Chappell? Matchroom PDC and Boxing? INgrooves? What do any of those have to do with it? Confused

There were clips from The Old Grey Whistle Test, so some PRS issues at least.

Anyway, just watched the programme, don't bother it's just the same programme from 2004, chopped
up into three parts, and reheated. Poor effort BBC, and the contributors look ten years younger, (because they are !)
