With a new channel being launched I felt that it deserved it's own thread. Channel 55 on Freeview is currently showing a place holder promising a new channel from 5.

Now, a member of the Digital Spy forums has claimed to have emailed Channel 5:

To me this sounds as if it confirms speculation of a 4Seven type service. It would surprise me though as I was under the impression that 4Seven had not proved particularly popular.
Others on Digital Spy have speculated further guessing that the channel will show old programmes from 5.

Whatever 5 Later turns out to be, I'm sure we'll find out sooner or Later!

Popular with viewers and commercially successful aren't necessarily the same things though.

I saw the title and thought Channel 5 was re-branding its overnights... You can blame C4 for that.

Exactly - it's cheap and does well enough, though nobody would miss it if it went. The biggest problem with 4seven is while the factual stuff gets repeated ad nauseum the drama only gets one outing, often on the same night, so that kind of defeats the purpose of the channel.

C5 will be using space claimed back from Top Up TV, so presumably the old ESPN stream which is currently a BT promo loop. Not quite sure how C5 owning these streams fits in with ITV owning the mux.

Oh no, not another cheesy joke! Wink

As for 5Later - yes, it really does sound like a 4Seven for Channel 5. Obviously they were likely candidates, as Channel 4 had launched a channel like this.

We'll have to wait and see! Smile
