Hello,

Does anybody have a clue about what the '4TVinteractive' channel is on Freeview channel 94 that appeared after I did a rescan?
Has it got something to do with channel 4 because the interactive service there has not changed at all? Or is it something else?

Thanks a lot,
Joel.

I have it on 704 rather than 94.

Plenty of discussion at

http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97797&perpage=25&pagenumber=1

There's also discussion on the apparant sign-up of price-drop.tv to DTT.

It must have something to do with Channel 4... but I'm getting it on channel 704 on my Daewoo box.

Interestingly, the space originally reserved for the new channel from Channel 4 (channel 14) has been taken by Price Drop TV - see my other thread.

This has nothing to do with Channel 4. Their text services are being provided by Teletext soon. Read the thread at DigitalSpy.

Maybe my tv can't count!!

Interactive Services Platform
4TV have developed an interactive services platform utilising bandwidth within the vertical blanking interval (VBI) of the analogue terrestrial broadcast system available to the entire UK population. This continuous stream is used to transmit an error-corrected data carousel to 4TV devices, including free to air digital terrestrial STB, free to air IDTV or free to air digital terrestrial PVR. The platform features;

An advanced continuously updated Electronic Program Guide ('Fast Guide').
Automatic recording and tape management (Video Browser)
Interactive content including advertisements and magazine-like features rendered via 4TV's own web-like 'micro browser'.
Use of the analogue bandwidth provides data transmission to the widest possible user base and is immune from bandwidth constraints inherent on existing digital multiplexes. No modem connection is required by the user increasing consumer acceptance

EPG Service
4TV utilises part of the UK channel 3 bandwidth to broadcast data. This data is transmitted with both a continuous data stream and an overnight bulk data dump. Using 4TV's interactive services platform, data broadcast by this service can be received by over 99% of TV homes throughout the UK.

Through this bandwidth, 4TV will broadcast TV listings information for all channels for up to six weeks look ahead, depending upon the programme data available. The information is updated on a daily basis and includes detailed programme synopsis.

I don't know if this is anything to do with it, but i saw this on 4-TV.net!

There are discussions going on now at Digital Spy: -

The new channel from Disney

4TVinteractive on 704

Price-drop.tv on Channel 14

Teletext on 4, replacing FourText on Channel 50

Very Happy

Interesting.... I didn't know you could get "over 99%".... I thought percents stopped at 100! so it would've saved a bit of time to just say 100% Unless they mean 99.5 or something!

Yes, I'm sure they meant 99.5% or something.

Most channels are broadcast with an accompanying LCN (logical channel number). This basically is a signal carrying the channel number so the box knows where to put it. If a channel is broadcast without an LCN, then the box will have a default set of numbers to use (intended to be located far enough away from the other channels not to clash with them). ITV Digital boxes all default to 800 (or if that's allready taken, 801, and so on and so on). The newer boxes and IDTVs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, although most use the 100s.

Teletext on 4 is currently showing a Coming Soon screen on Channel 50, could someone do a screenshot before it goes again please?

I am aware this should be in requests, but not many people would notice this in there so I probably wouldn't get a response until later on, when FourText will probably be back on Rolling Eyes

EDIT: - Don't worry, got one here http://www.kswindells.co.uk/freeview/screenshots/Teletext_On_4/coming_soon.jpg

Very Happy

Many thanks,

This service is on channel 50 and is currently testing. You can see the service, if your box supports it (some older boxes don't) by pressing green, blue, yellow, red, yellow, green, text).

A nice new feature is that you go to any page by keying in the page number, just like teletext on analogue TV. On some pages, such as the front page, you can see Channel 4 in quarter-screen.
