I have a Meridian Broadcasting booklet which talks about the setting up of a working party to assess the viability of a fourth news region centred in Brighton. Meridian will be giving detailed considertation to the immense technical and cost implications. Anyone know what came about of this in the end?
Err - DAS - Abingdon is part of Central (the home of Central News South)
The three current Meridian regions are Newbury, Southampton and Maidstone. I would imagine Brighton is Southampton, though possibly some people may get Maidstone?
ISTR that the new BBC South East region will be 'sharing' Brighton as a news coverage area with BBC South (who currently cover it, and who run the down-the-line studio there)
Sorry, well spotted, I just got confused between the two. Still, Abingdon and Newbury ain't that far away.
Technically, South East Today is for 'Kent and East Sussex' and Brighton is right to the edge of East Sussex - practically on the borderline. I would imagine that Brighton would get both, with most remaining with South Today
Yep - I think as Brighton is so close to the border of the patches it is likely that there will be people in both regions who are interested in Brighton stories. I would imagine the staff based in the Brighton office will need to work to both regions to cover stories east and west of Brighton...
(Though I think you are right, and the actual Brighton office and DTL position will remain in the domain of Southampton rather than Tunbridge Wells)
BTW - Does anyone know if Tunbridge Wells are gaining any remote studios/newsroom cameras to assist in the coverage of their patch?
