4seven

'social media driven catchup' (March 2012)

The schedule for the first few days is now up on Digiguide - it's basically More4 with the odd episode of Hollyoaks. The channel airs from 9.15am each day, beginning with Countdown and Deal or No Deal, which also get an evening repeat from 5.15pm. Afternoons are largely repeats of the C4 morning schedule with the odd additional show thrown in. Primetime at the moment has all slots scheduled and generally speaking takes shows from yesterday, though the 9pm show on C4 gets a repeat at 11pm on 4seven and again at 9pm the next day.

It is essentially what is said it would be - but kind of makes More4 even more pointless.

So, the same programme would be on C4 at 9, C4+1 at 10 and then 4seven at 11?!

Looking at the first Sunday schedule, Sunday Brunch is getting a 3pm repeat on 4seven.

It's the Sky Three to 4seven's Sky Mix.

4Seven will also be the first to show Hollyoaks Omnibus, on a Saturday (previously the first showing was about 3am Sunday on E4 with signing)

How have they decided the schedule already if the channels purpose is to showcase "Channel 4's most popular and talked about shows from the last 7 days, all on one new channel"?

Here is the promotional video that I took that quote from.

There. are people who work at Channel 4 whose job it is to know what is going to be most popular and talked about (Not to mention what they actually have repeat rights for). You didn't think the schedule would really be decided by a bunch of Twitter users, did you?

That is a surprise, I'd have thought it would have gone onto 147 with a jiggle around of the other '4' channels

Hmm, David, I feel that your final sentence smacks of an intelligence-insulting, "I told you so" arrogance. (It's very easy for one to claim to have "always-known-better-than-any-the-rest-of-you" (or similar) in retrospect , now isn't it?)

On the basis of much of the 4seven pre-launch blurb thus far (prior to recent on-air trailers, etc), I genuinely did think that it sounded like the schedule would be essentially "decided" by social media users (e.g. no more than, say, 24 hours in advance of broadcast, or similar).

And I find it hard to believe that "knack" and I are the only two Forum members - or people in general - who thought that.

IIRC, much of the discussion here on TVF since we all first knew that 4seven was coming, surely demonstrates that many here were under that impression too? Mainly because that's exactly the impression that the much of the pre-publicity has given . I'd wager that most people in general (i.e. not solely "pres fans") would have interpreted much of the 4seven advance publicity in exactly the same way too.

Rant over. Have a nice evening, everyone! Smile

Well, there is supposed to be a 4seven app launching, but I believe that only two hours of scheduling a day will be chosen by Twitter users.

This isn't in retrospect, this is spect! The channel has not launched yet. Anyway, I posted this in May...

It's just a normal channel showing programmes from Channel 4. The rest is just hype. Sure, it might show programmes that have been mentioned on twitter and facebook but they know well in advance which programmes are going to mentioned on social networks and so prepare the schedule accordingly.

How would that even work? Whatever the marketing stuff says, common sense tells you that a channel with a schedule decided by social media would fail and Channel 4 wouldn't be so stupid.

Yes and must people on here are saying it is a stupid idea and/or wouldn't work. They were right in a way.
