I've been watching a fair bit of 4music the past few days and have noticed the vastly superior technical standards compared to the rest of the music channels (as in the rest of Box and MTV). The picture quality, being in widescreen, and general slickness of the channel make it seem like theres much more care put into it than the others which appear to just be run by computer and left to chug along by themselves.

Is 4music played from a separate playout facility than the other Box channels and if not, why aren't the others up to their standard? It's been a year and a bit since The Hits became 4music so its not as if its not proven itself in terms of standards and it surely requires more work to have a 4:3 version and a 16:9 version of everything if they are in the same facility.

4Music is played out from the same place as the rest of the Box TV channels - the best I can suggest is that Channel 4 have thrown a bit more money at it.

IIRC when it first launched it was in widescreen, then they went through a phase of switching between widescreen and 4:3, then went permanently 4:3. It makes more sense for at least 4Music to be in widescreen, especially when they show regular C4 shows at about 10pm.

Might be me but I can remember a time when music channels actually showed music as opposed to airing copious airings of drivel filler programming. Apparently in 2008 MTV (America) only played three hours of music a day on average, a trend repeated on the international channels. Why these things don't just get rebranded "MTV Entertainment" I'll never know.
