Considering all the publicity I'd say those figures for V aren't that good at all - I'm sure if it had played out on E4 it would have got 2-3 times the audience, without the expense of launching another channel. I wonder just how profitable the music channel business is?

4MUSIC HITS THE NUMBER ONE SLOT WITH VIEWERS
Friday's opening night saw 4Music launch at 7pm with an impressive 193,000 viewers (2.7 % share of 16-34 year olds), outperforming both ITV2 and Dave at that time - and attracting 10 times more viewers than MTV One. 4Music secured an impressive 0.7% share of individuals and 1.2% share of 16-34's digital viewers, comprehensively outperforming TMF (0.15% Ind.) and MTV One (0.15% Ind.) from 19:00 onwards.

By far the most popular music channel on Friday evening, 4Music built on this success on Saturday with exclusive live coverage of the 2008 V Festival. Earning a 0.4% share of digital viewers on Saturday, 4Music peaked with an audience of 92,000 viewers at 9:30pm as performances from Stereophonics and Jamie T were screened. In comparison, TMF managed just 49,000 in the same slot.
With further footage from V dominating Sunday's schedule, 4Music again pulled in a 0.3% share of viewers, peaking with 143,000 viewers at 6pm as during One Republic's set. Again, 4Music dominated the music channels, far ahead of TMF who recorded a 0.19% audience share on Sunday and MTV One who achieved just 0.09% share.
The rebranded channel was also consistently popular with younger viewers, being the 10th most popular digital channel with 16-34 year olds over the weekend. 4Music attracted an average 1% share of 16-34's over its opening three days, eclipsing TMF and MTV One with 16-34 shares of 0.62% and 0.26% respectively.
