More people were at a football match last week than watched it on the ITV Sport Channel. There were about 8,000 at the Nationwide Div 2 match & about 4,000 watched it on ITV. This is happening with virtually EVERY match the ITV Sport Channel shows!
It seems that you are implying that ITV are loosing out.
Well shouldn't there be more people at a football match rather than be sat at home watching it? It sounds like you want more people to watch from home rather than create an atmosphere, and seeing the match, live in your face.
It seems people are very quick to criticise and judge a service without really knowing too much about, so I am going to bang the drum now a bit for the ITV Sport Channel.
ITV are said to be very happy with the level of subscribers to their new Sport Channel. And I don't think we should be condemning them for providing a a platform for the lower league teams, of course lower division games will traditionally get less viewers.
Divisions 2 & 3 will be a bit of a loss leader for the ITV Sport Channel, they won't pull in huge amounts of viewers but Division 1, Worthington Cup Games & Champions League will provide a big draw to the channel.
Incidentally it is a big week for the ITV Sport with a live game nearly every night next week. 8 live matches in total, an unprecedented number of live games in one week !
Sunday
Div 1 : Watford vs Wimbledon (ITV Sport Channel)
Monday
Worthington Cup : Blackpool vs Leicester City (ITV Sport Channel)
Tuesday
Champions League : Liverpool vs Boavista (ITV Sport Channel)
Champions League : Real Mallorca vs Arsenal (ITV Sport Plus)
Wednesday
Champions League : Celtic vs Rosenborg (ITV Sport Channel)
Champions League : Olympiakos vs Man Utd (ITV1)
Thursday
Worthington Cup : Torquay vs Tottenham (ITV Sport Channel)
Saturday
Div 1 : Man City vs Birmingham City (ITV Sport Channel)
Drum banging finished, ITV Digital pay cheque should be in the post !

The average Super Sunday match is watched by about 1.5m (probably more if you count all the pubs - but that's the official figure) and there is probably a full house at the stadium (35,00-67,000) depending on the club

Well your not exactly comparing like for like now are you ? A Premier League match vs Nationwide Division 2 ?
Do you think the BBC will launch a sports channel? I'm very surprised that they haven't already!
The problem with that Gary is they haven't got an awful lot to show !
However they have gone into what is popularyly called called a partnership with NTL to launch British Sport this autumn, however they have really only sold rights to their archives to Premium TV (who are mainly NTL).

Well ish is the answer, if you look at it, and believing all of the figures are correct then, here are the statistics...
Skay - Premiership Match: 45,000(average - ish) TV: 1.5m.
Ratio - Match:TV = 1:33
ITV - 2nd Division Match: 8,000 TV 4,000.
Ratio - Match:TV = 2:1
That is a fair way of comparing them and you can see how the ratio even managed to turn the other way, also using these we can estimate that they should be pulling in 266,666 viewers, but of course there are fewers with the platform, but whose fault is that!

The ITV sports channel should show other sports instead of just football. What happened to other sports like what Sky Sports do.
