What I found most surprising is that there was a new series of Are You Being Served debuting in 1985 - I always associated it with the 70s.

Are You Being Served had three seires in the 80s. Personnel not to the same levels as the 70s epsiodes. 1981 series was awful.

No one expected it to come back after 81, but BBC needed a sitcom fast so it was brought back. Im sure the 85 series was held back.

Also BBC2 from the same night - did they revamp their schedule at all?

Well, the big change on BBC2 was the ending of the Monday 8pm light entertainment slot which used to get absolutely enormous ratings, with Panorama on BBC1 and World In Action on BBC2. Series like The Bob Monkhouse Show and Des O'Connor Tonight would run there and get more than ten million viewers, it was as good a slot as anything on BBC1.

When Panorama moved to 9.30 BBC1 started putting entertainment, starting with Are You Being Served, at 8.30 on Mondays and with World In Action still on ITV it used to be a really cushy slot for new sitcoms for the next decade. BBC2 moved Horizon to 8pm for a choice of viewing and the mainstream light entertainment was now usually at 9pm, but it was never the same because there was tougher competition from ITV.

To be fair, Steve did correct it in the later paragraph but didn't spot his previous error. Thumbs up
