If that was the case, I have to assume it was a cock up and the transmitters were supposed to have been safely shut down. It should have been possible to feed materials to the regions and nations without transmitting it.
That’s why I wondered about whether this was true. And would each region have had to have had a member of staff working late at night especially to record them?

Though all sorts have been broadcast for various reasons during downtime intentionally. Possibly they were shown for a reason other than feeding the regions.

The COW always felt cold to me.
Too posh.
Really dislike the gold BBC 1 lettering underneath.
The virtual globe felt so futuristic.

I definitely remember seeing a caption in the style of the BBC One balloon used to precede a playout of promos and other material to the regions/nations.
Write that down in your copybook now.

I wish I could find it, but last year there was a photo online of the 1991 BBC globe being made and the elaborate object that was filmed to produce it.
I remember this one too as pretty sure it was on Twitter. I guess that's always a problem with things posted on social media rather than on a website though. They're great to see at the time, but a bit of a nuisance to find again later.

Yes, I know exactly what they mean as well.
Be nicer and more tolerant to each other. Them's the rules.

While we're here, am I the only person who, until last week, never realised the 1991 Laser Disc globe was actually a model? pic.twitter.com/kzWRYZzB4z

No idea where the footage originates from though.

Ah, beaten to it. And of course the positioning of the BBC logo is different as well.

Assuming it was cost effective to pay overtime etc in all 14 nations and regions to have a couple of people present (you can't have lone working for H&S reasons? ) rather than just send the recordings out in a jiffy bag, then to avoid transmission each region would have had to remove its outgoing u-links. What we don't know is whether the ident medley went out in all regions?
