Why couldn't there have been a straight '5th Millionaire winner' thread, rather than this bizzare one?

I guarantee, someone else will post a thread about Millionaire within the next week because they can't find a current one, and in this case I'm not surprised they won't be able to find one

Will anyone really care? Someone wins WWTBAM - big deal.

WWTBAM has lost it's "zing" it's been on the air far too long, really and truely it should be put to bed.

The episode will probably go out around 5.30pm and get beaten by Deal or No Deal. It'll probably also air around the date Strictly Comes Dancing returns!

They film them quite far in advance now - it was much better when they were done a night or two before so firstly, Chris Tarrant could be more topical, and secondly if there is a big winner, there is less time for people to find out!

One thing in ITV's favour and perhaps they are learning - we're a week into a new series and no sign of a celebrity special yet!

Being ITV, the best way to kill off a once successful format would be to place it on daytime with lower cash prize, say top prize of £10,000. Possible change in showtitle and a lower rate host like Mark Curry (no offence!) and watch it die it's death.

If this thread is where your life's biggest problems are, I'm very enviable.

Although I like gameshow wins to be a surprise, I'd glad about this spoiler as I'd never had watched it otherwise. Ditto the Lawrence Llysomething-Bowen incident in February.

Like everyone else in the UK, I was a *massive* fan of WWTBAM in it's heyday in early 1999. I made sure I saw every episode - in fact, when one episode was up against Comic Relief on BBC1, I got my auntie in Aberdeen to record WWTBAM and then post the video, which I still have today. It's interesting watching it as an example of the days when it was just huge.

Now, though, I don't know anyone who watches it at all. Winning a million on TV isn't as special as it was all those years ago, considering about ten people have now overall. It's Deal or No Deal that's the in-show now, especially as it's beating WWTBAM in the ratings.

Actually as daytime is the new primetime it's not the worst idea in the world.

The prize has to stay though - the average winnings on Deal or No Deal is about £17,000, while on Millionaire I'd guess it's around the £16,000 mark, so it could just about be feasible!

I think a new slot is what it needs really though - it's kind of lost on Saturday nights, especially in the autumn with The X Factor, Ant and Dec and Afterlife packed into the schedule, so moving it to a weeknight wouldn't be a bad idea, perhaps Friday at 8.30pm (followed by their primetime US import at 9.30pm).

I'd say you're half right. I think its more to do with the fact, people are now bored with the straight-forward multiple answer quiz - unless of course another element is introduced...i.e. Dale Winton's In It To Win It where the contestant risks going to the "red area" etc. Hence why something like Deal or No Deal does so well.

I think the programme needs to be scrapped alltogether - its had its day. Its been on for what, 8 years now? Its not must see tv like it was when it started.

You could just not watch it

If Millionaire has been going 8 years, then Weakest Link has been going 7, and that's on every day!

Plus, if Millionaire was axed, another channel, probably Five, would probably end up picking it up. Celador would not let it die
