That is very strange! The teachers must be working at EXACTLY the same pace. Or we could actually go to the same college, but I would rather not think of that possibility. Smile

I agree with surds. OK once you get the hang of them. I do just do them, I try not to think how (or why) things work. Very Happy

Hi Folks

Just sitting quietly mute at my desk, blank screen, Chinese lady colleague at next desk looking thoughtfully grim too.

Sorry for you boffins grappling with surds - unhappy memories - there is life after surds, folks, honest Very Happy ... and all the other mundane but scarey horrors of one's day-to-day existence, including cupboards - been in there. Sad

Heaven forfend such a circumstance should crop up again in the next lifetime or twain.

Smile

For some reason I wasn't informed of the three minute silence until about four hours after it took place, though at the time (1pm Turkish Time) I guess I was either eating lunch, struggling with the computers in the school lab or playing frisbee in the corridor...lessons? Who said that?

I was at work, and our three minute silence was a shambles - everyone was silent, except for two people, one of whom is my manager, who continued talking to each other for the whole time about the photocopier or something. Everyone kept looking at them but they didn't take the hint.

In the end the rest of us stayed silent for about four-and-a-half minutes, because I think no one wanted to be the first to start talking again!

So unfortunately the three minute silence had no impact for me at all.

Mmm, Surds I remember them.
I hope you don't find these hard (as some in my group did & then later dropped out), as just wait until you do complex Differentiation throughout most of P2 (Which probably isn't known as that anymore but it was during 1999-2000 before all this AS/A2 nonsense) Smile

Yep there is still P1, P2, P3, S1, S2 and M1 involved in A2 mathematics. P1, P2 and S1 are done at AS, I think.
I can't really remember.

Anyway psychology is much more interesting, you get to conduct experiments and confuse people. Great fun!

No seriously, its a very interesting subject. Its the most popular subject at the college this year. If you are doing/have done it then you will probably know why. Smile

I was at college (in Stratford-Upon-Avon). The 0900 - 1100 lessons all finished early (at 1050) so we could go and do the silence as we wanted.

Everybody basically congregated on the grass outside the front, either standing or sitting. A short burst of the fire alarm signified the stroke of 1100. Strategically positioned members of staff discreetly said when the 3 mins was over (for the benefit of the watch-less - like me)

I'm not usually religious, but yesterday I thought it was appropriate.

I would have thought religion is the most inapporiate thing to turn to. After all it was a fanatical  belief in religion that caused this outrage. Each one of those hijackers believed that they would be sitting at the right hand of god as a reward for furthering his cause. Just as the all the other religious zelots throughout history have done.

And don't believe Christianity is any better, thousands were slaughtered holocaustes done in Gods name.

Organised religion should hang its head in shame.

You're way of the mark on so many points -- it's not religion that's bad, it's the way people pervert it…

These Muslim terrorists completely perverted Islamic teachings…the perpetrators of genocides in the name of religion pervert it……if you studied religion at all you'd realise what it's all about……and since when were the Nazi's religious at all???? they didn't persecute the Jews, Gypsies, Gays, Slavs, and countless others in the name of any religion…if you passed any history course you'd know that

Ignorant people like you are the ones who allow things like this to happen…ignorance was been, and always will be humanity's greatest enemy.

Eventually we got the 3 mins silence done. I was in my English Lit class doing Richard II or is it Richard III? Anyway the bell went and people started to pack up however my friend Sam and I did the silence and when people tried to talk to us we just put our finger on our lips and pointed to our watch. Then after a few seconds my English teacher remembered about it and asked us if we wanted to do it. We said yes so he stood by the door to stop the class whose room we were in coming in and we did it.

I am quite disgusted my school didn't organise a proper 3 minute silence. We were the only class to do it. My mum's going to write to the Head and complain.

Couldn't you write & complain yourself?

I was at home during the 3 mins of silence watching it on TV.
