And that's a shame, in my humble opinion.

I agree. Might as well just get a spray can and spray somebody's backside with a 2 onto it... oh wait.

^ I thought that was what it was in reference to.

Still don't get what he's so aggrieved by or why he's comparing anything to that... thing.

If only BBC1 would bring back the balloon.......

As was discussed on another thread a few months back, the BBC1 Balloon is a much more difficult 'sell' to bring back. Out of the context of it's time it's an odd idea.

The concept of a balloon flying over landmarks is still a good one*... but the globe painted on it doesn't work now it's stopped being the symbol of the channel. It always seemed to me as if they had a great idea, but weren't quite brave enough to ditch the globe and so came up with an odd compromise.

*and something involving aerial photography would look so good in HD

It was their symbol for 40 years though! Most people would probably recognise it if they were to return.

Only of a certain age, maybe. I'm in my 20s, and nobody I know associates a globe with BBC One.

They'd recognise it because it's a famous geographical outline of course!

Bringing back a globe could work... even though it's a bit of an odd and slightly pompous thing to represent a tv channel! But a globe on a balloon, no

But so what? How could a balloon with a globe painted on it be anymore alien to someone than synchronised swimming hippos.

I do think having a silent ident and programme slides makes it more flexible for the announcers but it is probably deemed as old-fashioned.
