Ok, thanks James. Strange, though - I've never noticed it on any programmes! I doubt many CBBC viewers who don't know about cropping will notice if they do crop programmes - so does it really matter as long as it doesn't cut off a vital part of the picture?

I've never had any problems with CBBC as I watch it in letterbox ratio so therefore I get all the picture! This is on a 14' TV in the kitchen so don't know what it's like on my 28' screen. Suppose it would be the same as the 14' though but maybe the right hand side left in black like on BBC News reports.

In some cases it does though, like on some shows where there is a head or some text at the top or if you ever see the credits on tellytubbies, if you are watching the cropped version in either 4:3 or 16:9 then because of the overscan on many TVs the bottom line of the credits (the actual names) are cut off the bottom of the screen!

All the picture? You mean your TV can salvage the picture cut off the top and bottom that has been cut off by TVC? I doubt it. I'd prefer pillarbox then all viewers see all the picture though this is unlikely to happen.
