Interestingly, I believe the location for the video is the disused theatre at Alexandra Palace. Despite its suitability for use by the Television Service, it was only ever used as storage by the BBC.
And your point is? when was the last time the BBC did something like this? 15 years ago. Im sure the repeated Headlines can wait 2m 49 secs.
it's a good job you're not running BBC World News then...they'd have lost even more viewers to CNN. A BBC music promo is not an justified reason to delay the BBC news

Kind of agree, but there isn't another BBC linear tv channel broadcast globally that can carry such a promotion (back in the day BBC Prime would have carried it, albeit only to Europe, bits of the Middle East and Southern Africa). Relaying it on BBC World News, although slightly out of remit for the channel, is not really very different to relaying it on WS Radio.

You're being a little silly there really, aren't you? I mean, are they going to lose a load of viewers because of one promo? Nope. Do they lose viewers when they show adverts around the world? Nope.
This was great. Of course you couldn't beat Perfect Day (and cannot beat the original tune either), but you could make this as it's sequel, cause it's still impressive.
The Damon Albarn thing was poor, one of the DJ's who were playing the track afterwards said "Is that it?"
I guess that was experimental, while as the God Only Knows promo (in addition to Perfect Day 97') was a anthem.
Does beg the question though: how about BBC Music having some kind of flagship weekly programme showcasing the most popular releases, based on their chart positions...
Even if that was viable in terms of what the audience actually wants and needs I think the brand has been so tarnished over the last couple of years that TOTP isn't something the BBC would be looking to bring back.
Yeah I agree. As much as I thought that mainstream music was well overdue a return to prime time TV, I think bringing back TOTP would be a bad move at this precise moment. They're best waiting a few years once all of this furore has died down and assess the situation whether a TOTP revival would be a good move then.
At least it's still on at Christmas, it's not totally dead in the water.
I don't think the brand is tarnished - we still get the 70s repeats and the Christmas special so I don't think there's much of a worry there. To me the reason why they've not resurrected it is simply because there isn't an audience for a mainstream weekly top 40 show any more. After the first episode hype all those watching for the nostalgia would disappear, leaving only the younger generation left - and they're too busy racking up million+ views of YouTube videos on the day of release, never mind waiting weeks or days for it to enter the chart.
The only way you could bring it back would be as part of an entertainment programme (The X Factor) or mixed in with interviews (The O Zone), and neither is what TOTP was about.
The promo is growing on me but I think I'll always prefer Perfect Day. This one is quite short and very repetitive. A nice effort though, visually impressive and a good, broad list of singers.
