Ok...
I'm sure the producers of ITV commissioned dramas wouldn't agree with that throwaway line..

I can't remember the last US import I've seen on ITV either...

Unlike the 80s when there were lots

Apart from films, I’m only aware of the late night Murder She Wrote repeats. BBC1 and ITV are no longer the home of US/Aus dramas.

Surely it's the Lethal Weapon series. Season 2 starts soon I believe.

Lethal Weapon is probably the only other US drama on ITV.

I'm not sure. Certainly Southern to TVS, everybody (who wanted to stay) was TUPE'd across, I seem to recall that wasn't the case with TVS to Mer ? Although it would have made sense to have had the same shift working for TVS up until midnight, as for Mer after.

You're right. Everyone was made redundant from TVS and even the pension scheme was wound up. All the people I knew wanting to work for Meridian had to apply for a job with them. The 'lucky' ones got redundancy from TVS and a new job with Meridian.

A friend of mine's sister, was Southern's then TVS's senior personnel (sorry HR !) officer, she had been with Southern since the 60s, and she was the last TVS employee to leave, and filled in her own P45

Hi Mark,

I'm actually working on a project now that involves tracking down some people at TVS and it would be amazing to talk to someone who used to be in HR and see if they could help. Might you be willing to drop me a line on my private email - brayshawsam3@gmail.com??

I know it's not really pertitent to this thead, but does someone know the date/year ITV switched to widescreen?
I suppose that they launched WS transmission around 1998 (along with the BBC), but maybe WS graphics only came along with the 1999 new "Hearts" idents (both Granada and Carlton) etc.

Thanks

I think some programmes like The Bill were broadcast in widescreen on digital TV after it launched in 1998, but the presentation and adverts on ITV (and Channel 4) didn't go widescreen until what was dubbed C-Day in 2000. ITV and Channel 4's 1999 idents were both produced in widescreen in anticipation.

Channel 5's 2000 idents were also produced in widescreen, and were shown in 14:9, but never actually got shown in widescreen! It was only with the short-lived 2002 package, before the 'five' relaunch in September, that they started showing them in widescreen.

A few points included a number of reports from the Independent newspaper of around the time of the switch over,

on New years eve 1992. All English ITV station took the ITN news at 23.55. Scottish stations did opted out... Mind you you should have seen 1993 new years ever ( ITN had to make 3 different news reports over 2 hours)

The following might be of interest to anyone on this topic:

Following is all from 31st DEC 1992

Never having checked the Independent's digital archive for TV listings, I didn't know that at this point at least it was using the Manchester print run. I must admit I preferred the paper when it was more like the pre-Murdoch Times.

Interesting that S4C, like RTE, appeared specifically to be marking the start of the single market which no UK-wide channels did. Funny, that. Can't possibly think why. (And yes, I know that most of Wales did vote Leave, seemingly the more so the greater the Labour heritage, but the Welsh-speaking heartlands were for Remain.)

These are not the Digital archive, there are the actually hard copies that were sent to the NLS, it must be noted which version was sent is unclear because London editions do appear instead of the manchester ones every so often ( like for most of july and september) If you do see the digital archive please give a shout out to say what there like. Wink

TSW really did hate home and away, there had Families and TTHR at 17.10 until mid september 92.

Interesting article re ITN. Would a news split have happened?
