Had it ever occurred to you guys that BBC News 24 is offering a news service, that combines coverage of the Jubilee along with developments from around Britain and the World, with business, sport and weather.

They are a News channel 24 hours a day, what would be the point of them showing the same coverage as BBC One, or even doing their own version it would always be second rate compared to BBC One’s core event coverage. The Channel is offering choice for people who continue to want news 24 hours a day, as much as I love Sky they are not covering news, they are simply covering this event (though they are doing it well) News 24 is offering news and current affairs 24 hours a day as it should.

Sky should show this coverage on an events channel, Sky One whilst covering it on Sky News, they should inform of the other top stories, business, weather and sport.

BBC News 24 offering News 24 hrs a day like my ass!

for three hours they join up with BBC Breakfast, and at night they metamorphasis into BBC World for five hours at night!

News 24 join Breakfast- a brakfast NEWS program, and for five hours they join BBC World, to share their NEWS program and opt out for NEWS programs.

So, I think that News 24, whether you love or hate it, does show News 24 hours a day.

If we want to be really pedantic, none of the news channels provide news 24 hours a day, however, news does make up the bulk of all of their outputs and so let's not bicker about that, eh?

Now, with regards to coverage of today, I thought the camera work on most was much the same, to be honest, as you'd expect with a pool feed. However, for the sheer hilarity of Jeremy Thompson's reporting I would have to say that I found Sky had the stickability factor above the others.

I saw parts of the ITN coverage and it seemed adequate but I'd rather have watched Sky. The Beeb's coverage was OK but the commentators were just a bit dull and irritating.

Either way, regardless of my views about the monarchy, the parade was very impressive.

Oh, and that Sky cameraman was pretty damn fit.

I agree about Sky, it was very funny when Jeremy Thompson got on that float of celebrities. They were much closer to what was happening on the ground.

ITV & ITN News Channel I thought was good, they had some good shots, and close ups. The commentary between John Suchet & Nick Owen was highly amusing at times (whether intentional or not)

The BBC did actually rather bore me a bit. I'm just a bit bored of the Dimbleby factor.

Either way, all of the money spent/wasted on today's lark about could've gone towards the NHS. It's all well and good making Daily Mail readers feel loved for a day but they're the first to moan when the NHS isn't up to scratch.

Did anyone else get the impression that Dimbleby was actually being quite critical? I didn't watch the whole thing because I had other (more important) things to do but when I flicked on to the Beeb he was asking one of the organisers "Why haven't you done this?" and "Why didn't you bother doing that?" Saying that, it's good to see at least one person criticising it all. The only truly funny bit I heard on the Beeb was when the slightly camp studio guest was asking whether the next jubilee was platinum, DD replied it was diamond, studio guest asked whether he was sure, DD replied "Positive, I don't know what platinum is, actually" and the camp studio guest replied that it was a metal. Well, was funny at the time, perhaps.

And if that isn't news what the **** is you ****! Breakfast is a BBC News Production and what the hell is the overnight coverage if it isn't news, and evan 'Talking Movies' is a news programme in its own right as is 'Hard Talk'.

So your point is invalid buddy!

I think he was more talking about it not being in the News 24 studio 24 hours a day!

Well, I am glad it isn't! I like it the way it is - although I don't see the point of Breakfast on News 24 weekdays really. I would much prefer BBC World News etc from 0500-0900 but can see the meaning of having it (weekend continuity, special occasions etc)

Erm, cost...

Much cheaper to have it the way it is now, probably one of the main reasons behind it.

I just can't see how the BBC can justify running a pretty faceless operation. Basically, News 24 could be anything. It is working to a similar presenters-behind-desks-reading-news format that has been done since the 50s. It would've been lovely for News 24 to have gone for a much more relaxed and just different approach than any of the other channels when it relaunch in 99. If you take America a couple of years ago, CNN were sitting at their big desk, Fox were sitting at their coffee table arrangement and MSNBC were walking around their huge studios, over here we just sit behind desks. Sky haven't done badly in introducing the News Wall but primarily the output comes from behind a large desk. As far as I can see, the BBC have done very little in recent years with regards to the presentation of news on-screen. It has remained relatively staid and dull and presenter-speaks-to-camera. Innovation seems to be ignored now.

Yes I think so too, however I wasn't talking about that all I said is BBC News 24 offers news 24 hours a day, I didn't say it offers it 24 hours a day from that particular studio.

Well just how do you want your news delivered ? There are only a certain number of ways really, stood at a videowall, behind a desk, at a coffee table or perched on a desk.

What would you prefer ? Naked news readers ? Peter Sissons in a leotard from a swinging trapeze ?
