Well if what you have heard is true, it comes as no surprise. NTL customers have the ability to "press red" - what do us Sky Digi viewers have the ability to do? Bugger all.
Aww, poor you. Now you know how the rest of us feel Laughing

The service would probably be utter garbage once you get into it. It doesn't really bother me, News 24 is the one I watch the most. Wink

The reporters say ITV News because the ITN News Channel show the reports used on the ITV News

I'm not sure why ITN has been slagged off here, their coverage of the Queen's Golden Jubilee has been excellent, at least they actually put some effort into it unlike **** 24. In fact, I would even say that their coverage matched the quality of Sky News, they had constant live images and plenty of live interviews with reporters such as Joyce Ohajah and Lauren Taylor, who are fairly big names actually. I don't know who's said about them showing "PowerPoint slides", but it's utter rubbish. Oh yeah, and Rachel McTavish presented, always a bonus! Wink

Exactly right Phil. The ITN News Channel has provided full coverage of the Jubilee celebrations. Most people who slag the channel off on here, base their opinion on about 5 seconds whilst they flick past the channel on route to News 24.

Yet News 24 hours coverage has been ****, you people know nothing.

ok lets see, when sky was in St Paul's where were ITN, outside with a still Powerpoint esq slide with details about the queens day...

Sky were there during Her Maj's meal, and everywhere were she went...

Again SKY has outdone themself, and special GEORGOUS graphics to boot

Oh I see, so ITN showed that slide ALL day did they? Don't bother commenting unless you actually saw ITN, eh?

the're top presenters out in the crowds, Jeremy Thompson has been great, talking to people watching, those people taking part, even police men and women, and it wasnt like an interview, just laughing and joking with them, all the presenters loving the events and taking part, News 24 should have showed BBC's coverage, with text info or something to add to the commentators talking, ITN has been much better than N24, but now where near the standard of SKYnews...

But surely the BBC would only have to pay ASTRA for the satellite space, and not SKY?

Well firstly, Sky rented out ALL the transponders on Astra 2A, so in the early days of SkyDigital even 3rd party broadcasters had to deal with Sky just to get carriage. I'm pretty sure they've done the same with Astra 2B. There is now a non-Astra satellite (Eurobird I think) in the same position of 28.2E which Sky do not have their hands on. But at the time the BBC services launched, they WOULD have had to deal with Sky.

Secondly, nothing gets onto Sky's EPG without an agreement being signed with Sky. This is why channels like CT1 and TV3 can be received with a Sky box, but don't get an EPG entry and have to be stored in other channels.

And thirdly, BBC news interactive needs to access the digibox's software to make the BBC software run. As the digibox is a proprietary Sky designed device (manufacturers have a strict basic spec that they must adhere to or their box won't be approved as a Sky box) if Sky don't let out the details, the broadcasters can't run interactive.

Had it ever occurred to you guys that BBC News 24 is offering a news service, that combines coverage of the Jubilee along with developments from around Britain and the World, with business, sport and weather.

They are a News channel 24 hours a day, what would be the point of them showing the same coverage as BBC One, or even doing their own version it would always be second rate compared to BBC One’s core event coverage. The Channel is offering choice for people who continue to want news 24 hours a day, as much as I love Sky they are not covering news, they are simply covering this event (though they are doing it well) News 24 is offering news and current affairs 24 hours a day as it should.

Sky should show this coverage on an events channel, Sky One whilst covering it on Sky News, they should inform of the other top stories, business, weather and sport.

SKYnews going closer and further than the rest...
Jeremy Thompson snuck onto a celebrity float, and spent too long on boardand couldnt get off before it came in view of the queen, so Jeremy and his camera team were presented with them to the Queen when they shouldnt of been on board at all...

It should be highlighted that News 24 did stress that for continuing coverage you should turn to BBC One. They obviously realised that there are other events going on around the world.
