(As for Ryan's comments about red button - well, we don't get it on Sky News so it's quite fair to me! Lol! Honestly though, nothing much there. Just HTML pages!)
Now I'm confused - do you have Sky or NTL?
Neither - Telewest. We don't get Sky News Active, BBC News Interactive (hopefully soon though) or ITN through the red button!
All we get is ITN if we press Interactive and trawl through all the sections to find it.
I think should think myself lucky then, being on Sky Digital! By far the best.

Technologically, Telewest's is far more advanced. Interactivity is easier on cable due to the fibre coptics etc and now they have Liberate 1.2 running, the red button works.
Could Sky News be breaking the law or something like that by not providing it's interactivity to other companies which should, theoretically be able to recieve it? Ant-competitive etc.

Well I did read that Sky withheld technical details about their technology from the BBC (and others ) so they couldn't do their interactive Wimbledon service until digital had been going for three years, giving them enough time to establish the same kind of thing on Sky Sports.
1. ITN NC may only have reduced its hours on DTT not ceased broadcasting entirely? Possibly this is because it is on the same mux as BBCi World Cup interactive sport channels? Maybe the Beeb are paying SDN and ITN were getting extra hours for free? (Or maybe they are now paying less etc.)
2. Believe the delay with BBCi launching BBC Wimbledon Interactive wasn't exactly technical info being withheld - it was contractual? I think Sky wanted the Beeb to sign an indemnity of a sizeable sum (millions) to insure against BBC software crashing Sky's boxes.

Please be aware that this looks dangerous like the 'hopefully soon though' refers to the BBC News Interactive. Prepare to be bitterly, wrist-slittingly disappointed!!! SNA - must be good - I actually
use
it!

But during testing of the bbc interactive channels ITN was still running with it's extended hours. And as I said before, when ITV Select there was at times space for all 5 of the movie channels to be running at once. This means that SDN can take up to 5 extra full time channels. TV Travel Shop is now 24 hour, but even if ITN was 24 hour (which it wasn't) there should still be space for 3 other full time channels, so I don't believe it has anything to do with the BBC as they only have 2 and in any case they still broadcast at the same time as ITN so they can't be sharing the same space.
This is more likely a cutting back measure on the part of ITN.
b) The radio hasn't stopped broadcasting, as someone has pointed out
c) It hasn't gone off DTT
So... nothing much has changed, to be honest.
Although no service has closed - I think being removed from Digital Satellite and Digital cable last Friday, the same day that DTT transmissions were reduced from 5.30am-6pm to 5.30am-9am (9 hours) - is more than nothing much!

I just checked and the ITN News Channel doesn't seem to have ceased broadcasting! Then again, they're not showing the Queen's Jubilee live like other news channels are, just what looks like Powerpoint slides of information!
The reason we don't get stuff like Sky News Active and more PlayJam games on NTL is because of the software in the digibox! Anyone ever bothered to look at the way things are loaded and selected? It IS actually HTML, and the browser's like Netscape running on an old 486! Go to http://ntl.itn.co.uk - that's the actual 'red button' service you get on NTL!
Sky digiboxes have better software, allowing them to show multiple DTV feeds on the same screen in a mosaic, and also animate selection bars on things like PlayJam.

But surely the BBC would only have to pay ASTRA for the satellite space, and not SKY?
Also, I noticed on ITNNC that the reporters say 'ITV NEWS' so perhaps ITNNC is closing on July 1st in favour of ITVNC ?! After all the rebrand of ITV will probably involve a new set and if ITNNC are just showing slides or broadcasting for three hours or so a day then that gives them a lot of time to refurbish...? Maybe.
Also something I noticed, ITN provides the news for EURONEWS so if ITNNC were to close then there still would be an ITN channel.
