I suspect L&K's title sequence got the new logo on the side of TC1 more quickly than the real thing

I think on the Saturday Mornings website it says that the new signage was only put up in time for Children in Need that year.

Here's a question: when was the BBC1 and BBC2 signage above the main reception removed? Did it also last through to November?

Well the Main Reception became the Stage Door in July 1998, with Reception moving to Stage 6, so perhaps they updated both lots of signage then?

I think it was put up in advance of the logo change, covered up and then unveiled. I was sure there was a scene in I'm Alan Partridge where you could see the covered sign.... but looking at the two episodes where he goes to TV Centre, the first has the old logo and the last has the new one which is odd because I'm sure I've seen it

Alan Partridge can answer that though. The last episode has the new BBC TV Centre signage but not the channel logos above Stage Door. That episode went out at the beginning of December but of course would have been filmed a while before that, but after October 4th

Idents should either be very much of their time or timeless. This fits into the former category. BBC Two’s 90s idents are the latter. BBC One’s current idents neither.

See I'd say the BBC1 Balloon is timeless and the BBC2 90s idents are very much of their time - the more I see them the more dated I think they look and it's shameful they're back on air.

According to this speech the 1991 BBC2 idents were nearly pulled because the controller didn't like them, and the balloons didn't receive a warm reaction at first either.

(Is he talking about Alan Yentob or Michael Jackson? Wiki says Jackson was BBC1 controller 1996-1997…)

Well, those 1991 idents were drastically different to their predecessor...
