The provisional listings show the semi final as being on BBC 1, but the continuity announcer on ITV (going in to the news) just announced that "Wednesday night on ITV is the only place to be to watch England play in the semi finals...".
I wonder if the deal means ITV have to announce their pick first - because otherwise the BBC could have announced five Live will have the England Match or mention Belgium v France.

ITV have first semi-final pick. There is another quarter final to be played, and we all know which game ITV will be taking, but as the BBC come off air, I don't presume ITV have actually formally said which game they are taking.

Curse of ITV then? BBC get first choice on the 3rd/4th playoff?

ITV have the 3rd place play off. Either way ITV have 2 more England games. (Semi-Final, 3rd place play off or Final)

Twitter reaction to ITV only showing the semi hasn't been positive. I dare say the press will be picking up the reaction and using it to attack the BBC for not showing it and for not pushing to break the agreement (when if did break the agreement they would be attacked just as much for showing it)

You need to stop worrying about made up stories bashing the BBC

And a chance of breaking their ratings record I'd have thought. The games have been split absolutely fairly though and it just so happens that this is the first time in years ITV have gambled on taking knock-out games over group games and it's paid off for them.
ITV always seem to get the 3rd place play off - guess that's a trade off for always being crushed in the simulcast of the final.
P.S. Disappointing to see a few long termers here have clearly become so reliant on EPGs and online listings they've forgotten the joy of World Cup "Alternative Schedules". Pick up a traditional TV guide and it's easy to see that the BBC and ITV basically have a schedule of football and a schedule of programmes for Tuesday and Wednesday night and will swap them around accordingly, though actually I suspect the BBC will now pull Holby City and Our Girl from the schedules on Wednesday, probably in favour of a box-set rerun of Don't Scare the Hare!
Wednesday is ITV's World Cup Final.

The first edition of the The Sun on Sunday has made a mistake on its front page, suggesting England's semi-final is on BBC One. They've clearly just gone by the provisional listings.
