Biggest way to tell how big last night was that it was the first match which led the radio 4 Midnight news.

No, no, the reaction in the BBC Newsroom when Outside Source was on air. Smile

Why? USA didn't even qualify.

Its almost as if there are people of other nationalities / descended from those of other nationalities / have links with other countries, who live in the USA (especially New York).

Or that people may want to watch matches that don't involve the country they live / are from. England didn't quality for World Cup 1994 or Euro 2008, the ratings here were still very good for both tournaments.

First the whole thing is sponsored by Telemundo (a Spanish language network and a division of NBCUniversal hence it being outside 30 Rock) and the NYC FC. Second New York City has a huge Spanish language population (in Hispanic homes they are DMA #2 with 1.47 million homes) and fútbol is the most popular sport for the Hispanic culture. So why wouldn’t Telemundo try to do some outreach? Additionally Telemundo, NBC (when they show highlights they say you can watch on Telemundo) and all the NBCU channels are advertising the hell out of their coverage. Almost every channel (including non NBCU) except Fox I’ve seen a Telemundo World Cup ad replaced overtop of a usual Xfinity (Comcast TV, Internet, Phone branding) advertising.

Additionally soccer is growing in popularity in part because of NBC’s Premiere League rights. Before they were relegated to other channels but now there’s a marquee match every Saturday with three or four more on cable (the remaining if you pay). The trend started with the US being in the 2014 World Cup and did decently well but with the Premiere League the audience really grew.

Normally outside 30 Rock they typically have some sort of sculpture or large piece of art in the area where the pitch and bleachers are. This provides a different experience and may draw people into the promenade below or into the shops around the area.

Okay, before this gets out of hand and I end up having to delete several pages of posts could I ask everyone to keep discussion to presentation related matters. Posting news updates and speculating over the consequences of two who've collapsed near the spy poisoning site is (for now at least) off topic.
The football won't be affected by this at all - turns out the nerve agent was left over from the earlier incident, they didn't do the cleanup properly.

Indeed, though what would constitute a proper clean up, for something odourless and colourless ?

The press and public will probably want a war with Russia and the powerful newspapers might call for England to withdraw from the world cup .

I can assure you no one wants a war with Russia.

No, they push screens across where the window is behind the presenters.

No - they are setting and striking an LED matrix wall believe it or not. (So they have LED side screens throughout, an AR roof throughout, and either a real window or an LED screen behind)

I don't think you could achieve anywhere near the performance ITV are achieving with projection onto smart glass.

After the last couple of pages derailed by one individual I genuinely thought that was a question about whether the glass was bulletproof rather than whether it flicked to become a TV screen.
