If it is declared that Russia were behind it the government would have to seriously consider declaring war on Russia- the Foreign office advice would immediately be only essential travel and the FA would rather quickly declare their following governmental advice and leaving Russia. Id rate the chances of England's exit from the world cup being withdrawing and forfeiting a match rather than losing a match as increasing every minute. And that would probably see England banned from qualifying for 2022.

Are you seriously suggesting the UK could unilaterally declare war on Russia in the next few days? That is never going to happen no matter the result of the latest possible poisoning.

If its Novochock it wouldn't take that long to gather the evidence and once it is in War would be considered and even before hand the Travel advice could be changed to the extent that the FA and the BBC/ITV decide to leave(especially everyone connected to the world cup - their news reporters would stay as BBC do send journalists to countries declared unsafe)
I suspect the FA might have already been breifed and everyone prepared to leave and war plans dusted off.

Update. COBRA have met- clearest evidence that the government suspect National security implications.
The press and public will probably want a war with Russia and the powerful newspapers might call for England to withdraw from the world cup .

I haven't seen anything about a COBRA meeting reported yet?

Okay, before this gets out of hand and I end up having to delete several pages of posts could I ask everyone to keep discussion to presentation related matters. Posting news updates and speculating over the consequences of two who've collapsed near the spy poisoning site is (for now at least) off topic.

ITV will be happy the gamble paid off whatever happens from here on in. Didn't realise the QF was an afternoon game but doubt that'll harm ratings too much.

Anyone know how the highlights rate generally through the tournament?

Highlights rated well last night but other nights not as good.

It's on the weekend, so office and factory employees won't be stuck at work. I doubt the ratings will be any lower than the Columbia match despite the earlier timeslot.

It might be - in 2006 the Quarter final with Portugal at 4pm on a Saturday had lower ratings than the group stage match against Sweden (where England had already qualified) which aired at 8pm on a Tuesday. So it could be lower especially as even more people will be watching in places not measured by Barb.

The Panama game rated lower than the Tunisia game so it’s likely, plus hopefully we won’t have to go through extra time and pens again.
