Was wondering about this when I saw the penalty shoot-out. Imagined there being a caption saying "We apologise to viewers in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland for any partisan outbursts you may hear from our commentators. Especially you, Brekkie".
Spot the non english.
<insert something about sour grapes>
Absolute pathetic punditry from ITV tonight - get more neutral coverage of a Putin election on Russian state TV.

To be fair it was far more bearable at the end as they were all terrified. How they climbed on to the Henderson foul for much of the first half and during half time and played the victim card though reminded me why such coverage is so frustrating - just no objectivity or devil's advocate at all.
Possibly, but winners and losers both sides.
BBC had no Saturday or Sunday 7pm kick-offs all tournament, over 4 weeks and they tend to be be big raters. No Brazil until game 5.
Although they seemed to have practically every weeknight during the group stage.

It would be the same on the BBC who had a panel of all former England internationals for their matches. It's not unusual for the broadcaster to strongly favour the home nation being represented.
Just one neutral would help both broadcasters - generally because their non-English pundits are better.

Guess BBC have the first two picks then. Even if ITV end up with an England semi final I think overall the BBC have had the better picks of the tournament.

Neutral pundits would get into the partisan spirit to a similar extent I suspect in terms of cheering.

Broadcasters continue to make the mistake of not taking into consideration the views of Brekkie and family when planning their coverage of anything!!
As someone not from England, but part of the UK (Northern Ireland), I had absolutely no problems with the coverage. Of course it’s partisan but why shouldn’t it be? It’s not exactly Fox & Friends!

BTW apologies if you (and JCB) knew this and I'm just reading too much into this, but I am English and I was just poking fun at Brekkie's hatred of the English team

They did go on location for the quarter final versus Brazil in 2002 I believe, when the coverage was introduced from London by both the BBC and ITV, possibly in response to fears of low viewing figures due to the morning kick offs.
End of the day, if a home nation is represented, you're going to get partisan coverage. That's what the domestic audience expects. If two or more home nations are involved, there is the opportunity for them to do their own coverage.
IIRC the BBC showed Scotland's opening game
in France '98, however Border, Scottish and Grampian also opted out of a huge chunk of network shows (including the whole of CITV, the evening Home and Away showing and the ITN 5:40 News) to show the game as well.

Thought I’d share this. Telemundo (owned by NBCU) and the New York City FC setup a pitch and two large LED screens with bleacher seating so people can watch the World Cup matches right out front of 30 Rock.
The setup is in the area between where the ice rink would be and 30 Rock it self.

New York's at the edge of their seats at Rockefeller Plaza. @NYCFC definitely in the house for #ENG v #COL in extra time. #WorldCup #32Nations1City @NYCFCNation #NYC pic.twitter.com/YVdeCHlYTn
