You sure that was not a joke reference to Germany being eliminated.

Depends. If its an England semi the BBC semi will still be big names, If its not Sweden v Russia/Croatia might be a couple of million lower in viewing figures than ITV's unless only that one goes extra time/penalties.

Was wondering about this when I saw the penalty shoot-out. Imagined there being a caption saying "We apologise to viewers in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland for any partisan outbursts you may hear from our commentators. Especially you, Brekkie".
Absolute pathetic punditry from ITV tonight - get more neutral coverage of a Putin election on Russian state TV.

BBC One do have the first two picks. ITV had first two picks of the Round of 16.
To be fair it’s worked out quite well, particularly ITV having the Saturday and Sunday prime time games every single week throughout the entire tournament.
I told you all that BBC press office stuff was rubbish and it was always likely to be one game per channel per day rather than BBC One having both Saturday games.

Guess BBC have the first two picks then. Even if ITV end up with an England semi final I think overall the BBC have had the better picks of the tournament.

Possibly, but winners and losers both sides.
BBC had no Saturday or Sunday 7pm kick-offs all tournament, over 4 weeks and they tend to be be big raters. No Brazil until game 5.

It would be the same on the BBC who had a panel of all former England internationals for their matches. It's not unusual for the broadcaster to strongly favour the home nation being represented.
