For the final group games the second BBC match in the afternoon is getting a BBC2 slot rather than red button, with evening games on BBC4.

I noticed that earlier. Perhaps they think its better to put Eastbourne tennis on the red button rather than the Football .

I might be wrong but are ITV programmes shorter this time, I'm sure last time some games had almost hour long build ups (Adrian Chiles on the beach with lots of features etc)

I'm guessing they won't have rated that well so they aren't doing that this time, also I'm sure sometimes they used to start on ITV before the previous coverage had finished on BBC, but with ad breaks it was nice to let the coverage breathe.

The teatime games had hour long build-ups last time, but that was because the teatime games were the first matches of the day so there wasn't a match before it on the Beeb - and in addition for many people it was the first chance they had to see the action from the previous night's games because they'd ended after midnight (and ITV didn't have a highlights show) so they could talk about those for a long time. Not the case this time round.

Big problems in Australia with streaming service Optus, who have exclusive rights to all but 25 matches and only a streaming platform to air them - they basically haven't been able to cope with demand and for many there service has been unuseable. Therefore SBS, historically the broadcaster of the tournament and who air the "Match of the Day" each night as part of their 25 live games, stepped in to air all of Mondays and Tuesdays games. No word yet on if that'll continue.

Portugal V Morocco is demo quality for HDR from the dedicated main camera. Sun coming in and out, half the pitch in shade and half in sun. No lens adjustment needed.

Now Optus have decided to give it all away (sort of, and only until August):

No surprise Optus has flopped in Australia - up until quite recently most ISPs in Aus still capped monthly usage. The infrastructure clearly not there to solely support streaming of a major event and hopefully it is a warning to international sporting organisation that broadcast is still the best way to reach the widest audience.

Final night in Sweden. Both SVT and TV4 using the FIFA intro and breakbumpers. Poland v Senegal was shown on SVT2 rather than 1. Coverage has included female pundits on both channels (in SVT's case the most experienced and winningest player on the panel), an all-female reporting team following BlåGult around and female commentators on several games.

Unsurprising perhaps for a progressive liberal country such as this you would think, but it has raised comment on Twitter as usual.

Why did the bbc get the first two English matches? Or did itv make a pack it would take last one and the next two stages?
