Don't think either Miliband or Clegg have signed on the bottom line. Labour won't agree to a debate with Paxman due to him coming out as a 'one nation' Tory after leaving Newsnight. He was also approached to be the Conservatives London Mayoral candidate.

There are many other examples of this - Robin Day stood as a Liberal candidate and Alastair Burnet was certainly well known as a Conservative and a particular fan of Edward Heath, and of course Nick Robinson was in the Young Conservatives. This didn't stop them being able to interview impartially, and you could hardly suggest that Paxman's previous interviews have illustrated a bias towards the Tories.

Do Labour refuse to be interviewed by Nick Robinson? No, so why would they take issue with debating with someone who has admitted Conservative leanings (though is not a member of the Conservative party)?

Well Nick Robinson's involvement was 25 years ago not 6 months.

Yeah but to be honest - Robinson's involvement was of a much higher level - Chairman of the Young Conservatives, not a small c one nation conservative. It is important to remember the Tories approached Paxman not the other way around, also given he described himself as a one nation conservative - he may not be inclined to vote for the Conservative Party's policies at the current election.

I doubt this is gonna happen anyway. In the end the party leaders may just end up giving separate interviews.

All the leaders except Cameron have confirmed they wish to take part. The broadcasters have in turn promised that debates will go ahead leaving an "empty chair" for any leaders who do not wish to take part.

An "empty chair" would probably do a better job at running the country than most politicians.

My son is just watching 'In The Night Garden', if Cameron doesn't join in the fun then I'd personally replace him with Igglepiggle*.

* Charlie Brooker reference of course, though the Wife said it too.

Pretty sure Paxman also made numerous digs about Labour at the same time.

Paxman makes and made digs at everybody, including his own bosses. It's impossible (thank goodness) for anybody not to have personal views, opinions, and leanings on political matters. Any professional journalist (including all that have been mentioned in this thread so far) should be able to not let that interfere with their reporting and interviewing.

The debate will be streamed live on the STV Player.

Oh good, so nobody will be able to watch it then.

I was referring to the triumph that was STV Player during the first Referendum debate.

New proposals drawn up.

7 way debate on ITV on April 2
Paxman Interviews for Sky/C4 with Miliband and Cameron interviewed separately.
A primetime Question Time special with Clegg, Cameron and Miliband the week before the election.(similar to 2005 where all 3 party leaders appeared for 30 mins separately)
And another debate between the smaller parties including Ukip, SNP etc.

Cameron has agreed to them.
London Lite, ASO and VMPhil gave kudos

This is not ideal but is actually a good proposal in my view. But separate interviews are the best and obvious way around.

Looks like Cameron got what he wanted in the end and is now positioning himself as deal maker rather than deal breaker.
