I suspect it is turning more people off than on and the poor ratings of 800k -1.2m is evidence of that imo.

What's the average ratings for shows in that slot on Channel 4, can't imagine it would be that much more.

Can anyone explain to me how the screens in C4's studio work? The central one is obviously just a regular screen, but the two screens either side seem to have video AND criss-crossing lines that look like they actually bisect the surface of the screen. Are these "real" and the video projected from behind, or are they just overlayed on the video?

We've decided it must be front projection on to the physical "criss crossed" surface.

They've been poor at updating the EPG on 4HD at least.

I'm quite annoyed about the lack of EPG updates, having been at the games today I had hoped to see The Last Leg when I got back, but the Sky+ has missed most the show. You would have thought with Red Bee providing C4's playout it wouldn't be so much of a problem, they seem to cope just fine with changes on the BBC channels.

Probably worth mentioning that, unlike with the BBC, Red Bee does not do C4's EPG, just playout.

Yep - looks like it is front projection with real "bars" - but with the video being projected having "glints" that make it look like the bars are animating a bit. Clever.

There seems to be something 'off' about the feeds to the screens in both studios though - as often the Olympic Flame appears to be a bit juddery (as if it isn't running at full frame rate)

Why do C4 have separate commentators for their feeds and live coverage? Seems a bit of a waste to me.

Is one set doing an international commentary feed?

The feeds commentators aren't C4's - they're OBS's and providing a constant world feed for all rights holders around the world. C4 have their own commentators for specific events, who concentrate on the C4 live coverage.

However - the BBC commentators are often carried on the world feed as well (as the BBC sell their commentary on!)

I have heard the feed commentators right at the end of a couple of events briefly talk about what's coming up on that C4 para feed, and what time it gets going in the morning, which makes me wonder if they're providing commentary for both.

Wow, so Tony Jones gets employed just to do a few hours of live commentary!

Isn't that the case for all freelance football commentators? Rolling Eyes

They were making a big deal out of him being their football commentator, strange they've barely used him. I'm sure BBC used their feed commentators for live action didn't they? Or are C4 using IPC feeds?

On many occasions it was the other way round - OBS paid the BBC and used the BBC commentators on the world feeds.

AIUI yes.
