I suspect though they might leave the Winter games to the BBC.

Are the Paralympic rights sold separately? (I have a feeling they are)

The Olympics usually bundle Summer & Winter together (and I'm not sure if you can 'sub-let' the rights and sell them on?)

Don't understand why C4 don't cut down on trailers during the Paralympics- most of them seem to be for shows after the games or for their own Paralympics coverage, seeing as they're wall-to-wall for the next couple of days it seems a good way of allowing for more coverage.

Maybe because they want to take advantage of the increased viewing figures to advertise their other offerings, thereby increasing the advertising revenue of those programmes?

Yes, the Paralympics are sold by the host organising Olympic committee. In this case, LOCOG sell the tv rights.

The Olympics are sold by the IOC.

Channel 304 ...

was ... 301 HD

now ... C4 PG Extra.

More product placement then. Laughing

Someone's pointed out to me that PG is also the initials of Channel 4's head of Distribution...

All this "C4 Para 1" is a bit of a mouthful really - although traditionally denoted as "C4" I don't get why they're not using the brand "4Paralympics" for the channels and twitter etc. - roles of the tongue much easier.

The report by Ned Boulting at around five past had a shot of him typing the words "As the game gets underway" on his laptop as he was saying them on voiceover - reminded me of Charlie Brooker's Newswipe and the "How to report the news" skit Laughing

Seems a bit unnecessary though- they were advertising Alan Carr which doesn't go out for two weeks!

Well, they were plugging Total Wipeout through the Olympics which they ended up dumping out at half past five.

Did you not see the BBC's coverage of the Olympics ? Constant plugs for Who, Enders all the new dramas. Can't really blame C4 for trying to put their other offerings before the eyes of the extra Paralympic viewers.

Especially since if they don't make the most of it, it could end up with C4 in serious financial difficulties. It's important to remember that unlike the BBC who's income in guaranteed, C4 will collapse if it doesn't find viewers and therefore advertisers.

And don't forget BBC putting in a break at 8pm each day for no reason other than to run their new drama trails.

They seem to be really pushing 4oD during the games too - hadn't seen the "shows you miss" ad in months prior to the games.

Now C4 is only taking a break from 7-7.30pm it would be nice if More4 aired from 7-9pm with the swimming, allowing C4 to concentrate on athletics rather than switch between the two.
