The Abuse they are going to get for the Freeview SD PQ is going to be enormous too.

In Northern Ireland and picture quality is OK on freeview SD but it did freeze at half time in the studio and about 3 seconds of a freeze 5 minutes into the 2nd half.

The latter I think, noggin. ITV1 sans HD breakbumpers going into breaks.

Did STV HD launch in time for the World Cup, and if so were they affected?

Yes, STV HD is on Freesat and Virgin but not Sky yet I think.

Their World Cup coverage is just the same ITV Sport branded stuff - the ITV feed. The only difference compared to ITV HD is that we get an STV HD dog in the top left of the screen, right next to the ITV Sport logo.

When ITV HD went down, so did STV HD and we were 'treated' to the ITV HD breakbumper.

That makes a LOT of sense...

Away from the initial outrage that is taking place on another forum, can we have a discussion on how and why this could happen?

I can't see any explanation other than human error. I can't see how an ad break would just fire off at that moment. The reasons for the last cockup don't apply this time either.

I wonder if ITV had anyone begging for another unscheduled ad break in the closing stages tonight.

Well the HD channel has apparently had problems throughout, I wonder if it was related.

I mentioned in the ITV thread that there were at least two non-standard adverts. There was an advert with live betting odds during half time and an advert that made reference to the final score at full time. I wonder if the fact that these breaks were either live or last minute made the playout more complicated and something just didn't quite work in the way it should.

Yep - though wasn't it a sponsor bumper that ran, and then ran to black, not an advert. It wasn't a full break.

Causes could be - an event was in the schedule with an automated transition that should have been manual (i.e. waiting for someone to play it rather than being cued automatically), or someone was previewing something but hadn't bypassed the mixer from the transmission line. Or it could actually have been a rogue playout - though these are VERY unusual in any commercial transmission system.

Those BET365 live betting adverts are nothing special. They are shown regularly around football matches.
