Seems ITV are going for the "Only ones to be in Johanseburg" approach to compete with the BBC

I guess "only studio-based team from a British terrestrial broadcaster in Johannesburg" might not roll off the tongue as easily, but it's probably more accurate. I think the Beeb will have their bus and roving reporters on the streets in Johannesburg and outside the stadium at Soccer City on Sunday, in addition to the team in Cape Town.

I doubt that the stadium being out-the-window over Adrian's shoulder will really help ITV 'win' any battle for viewers. However unfair, I think it's always been an uphill struggle for them since the missing goal incident and the outcry over the ambush marketing stuff/pundit selling seats.

Is the BBC the only broadcaster that has it's own graphics generated by the host? I'm not aware of anyone else who do it, I know most of Europes broadcasters use the FIFA provided graphics and ESPN/ABC also take the FIFA.

Well I knew they wouldn't be generated by the host as such, I was just trying to put the question in the most simplistic why possible. In terms of extra cost I meant in terms of equipment, extra staff etc.

Still does anyone know if other broadcaster are doing it.

Sky Italia's graphics are in the official FIFA style, but appear to be generated by Sky Italia themselves. They're in Italian, obviously, which is the main difference, but there's also some other slight differences to the official graphics which RTÉ and ITV are using. They remove the scorebar whenever the lower-third scorebar is displayed, for example. Outside of the match their graphics are a wierd mix between their own house look and the official look.

They also have their own varient on the title sequence which uses part of the official titles, but ends differently (the FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 logo is only half the size it is on RTÉ and beside it is a "Sky Sport - Licenced Broadcaster" logo).

CBC/Radio Canada have been using FIFA-inspired graphics for their score clock with room for a sponsor to appear. It's added in by the control room during the game only after FIFA adds in their score bar and removed when there's a replay.

However when they go back to the studio for halftime commentary and pre/postgame analysis they revert to the standard CBC Sports graphics.

ESPN/ABC are also doing the same.

I think there is a metadata for all the broadcasters, which then translates it for the other broadcasters, all the graphics were in sync with the world commentor ie when they referred to the stats on the bottom left etc, the scoreboard isn't on the world feed though.

There were a few moments where Clive did seem to stop bothering and also made a few bad calls which I think a sidekick might've quickly corrected. Instead there were awkward pauses, he would wait for the video replay then have to correct himself on some judgements/remarks he'd made just seconds earlier.

Just all felt a bit odd, esp for such a big game.

God, you guys don't know your living! Here in Oz, SBS TV have regularly had matches with only one commentator covering the events. Really, really poor effort!

They'd have to battle the vuvuzelas, but might be worth them putting Adrian Chiles in the stadium in Jim Rosenthal's position so they can claim to be at the heart of the action rather than in a studio miles away.

BBC News are showing quite a bit of the final. They showed the last few minutes and are now showing the extra time too.

Did BBC or ITV show this at all...

I'm not sure what time it happened.

Really liked the District 9 influenced closing credits sequence on the BBC, brilliantly done.

It was before the match, I don't think it was mentioned on the BBC/ITV coverage. If it wasn't, I guess it was just the policy of not giving publicity to these people. It was Jimmy Jump, he does this all the time, he's the guy who invaded Eurovision this year and made one of the countries have to do their song twice.

He was actually trying to put a hat on the World Cup:

I didn't notice any mention on the TV coverage that Robert Mugabe was at the stadium, either.

It was Spain he invaded at Eurovision, he's Spanish and all his invasions are Spain related so he probably wouldn't have shown up if it was Germany vs the Netherlands!

I'd imagine it'd get pulled from YouTube if FIFA notice it, so catch it while you can at http://beta.bbc.co.uk/i/t24jz/?t=3h59m27s

The BBC 1 coverage of the final was very good as usual.
I am pleased they had no commercial breaks, and that I didn't have to put up with adverts for Walkers Crisps.
The thing that annoys me most of all about Walkers Crisps adverts is that bloke with the big ears and a cheesy smile. I would rather watch Gary Lineker talking about football on the BBC. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
