It's all planned out, in detail, there's no picking required ....

BBC certainly comes off better though getting the first two quarter-finals, especially as they also get first pick of the semi-finals. ITV at least should have got a 2nd choice quarter final - but I'm wondering whether the rights fee is actually split 50/50 because even taking into account ITV preferring the guaranteed primetime England group games, they seem to be losing out big style in the latter rounds.

There's NO PICKING as stated above, the whole schedule is sorted. Read the document.

But the do pick , because depending on the outcome of the games, the BBC/ITV could end up with either a good or crap game, only untill the result of the games can they pick which games they want.

The numbers are not picks they are the official match numbers.

Why on the second page ( obvioulsy in the wrong place as it's should be the header of the final table, not randomly in the first gamed) has it got the table header saying :

Picks Scenario 1 Scenario 2 Scenario 3 Scenario 4 Scenario 5 Scenario 6 Scenario 7

Wrong I'm afraid, the deal was done IN MARCH. The whole coverage was sorted BEFORE a ball was kicked at the start of the finals.

your saying their no picks - why does it say "picks" then? ( see point above)

The coverage was done in March for the first round, but it can't be from R16 as tou don't know who's going to be in it !

I.e if it was "picked" in march, the BBC could get a Crap team vs a crap team ( because you don;t know the result yet) and ITV could get 2 good teams!

Edit: seen your comment above! Laughing

I would have expected you to have the decency to leave your rather aggressive 'I'm right!' style posts in.

I have apologised. I would have thought that was sufficient, the typographical error in the ITV document together with FIFA's numbering of the matches made the error easy enough to make.

Ah, if only we had some sort of alternative system to clarify Fifa's cumbersome numbering method...

Nice touch at the end of the ITV coverage at the moment . . . their theme tune being performed live in the studio.

RTÉ's Apres Match comedy sketch show tonight took a trip back to Italia'90 and probably the most famous Republic of Ireland match of all time, the Round of 16 game against Romania. A snippet of the Italia 90 theme tune (arguably the most famous RTÉ football theme, it was used for years afterwards for internationals on RTÉ, right up to just before USA 1994) and title sequence was seen along with the Italia 90 host broadcaster graphics (which were used for the Serie A for years afterwards).

It should be up at some point at http://www.rte.ie/sport/worldcup/apresmatch.html but for now there's some others including some Sky Sports News parodies!

I think this is a rare occasion where ITV's World Cup titles and theme and other incidental music is actually better than the BBC's. It's normally the other way round.

The BBC's is a bit quick and basically we'd already seen and heard it on the pre-tournament promos anyway.
