Obviously we don't know the full story, but if FIFA made more tickets available to fans in the first place they wouldn't be in this position. Seems though FIFA gifted tickets to ITV who gifted tickets to employee who didn't want/need them himself so sold them on!

More details coming through. Basically a block of tickets allocated to ITV and subsequently provided to pundit Robbie Earle ended up in the hands of a marketing ambush agency for the purpose of advertising a Dutch brewery company.

Another embarrassment for ITV. It's turing into a PR disaster for them.

Sky News article

Well he was given 150 tickets and 36 ended up in their hands - but I still put the blame in FIFA's hands. What do they expect when individuals are given so many tickets for "friends and family"?

And of course the irony is if they let is pass the "ambush marketing" would have gone unnoticed - but their firm hand means more publicity than they could ever wish for.

Especially when you see what this 'ambush marketing' stunt actually looked like - a row of women in orange dresses at a Netherlands match!

I'm sure it meant something to a few media-savvy dutch people but surely not a big deal?

Surely you could smell a rat? (Or that thing that men smell about tarty women?).

I hate to be the one to point this out (well, not really) - but women are only interested in football to impress men. If you see a gaggle of blondes wearing dresses at a match, they're not there to discuss the offside rule.

Whatever *that* is.

Some may disagree, but you're this wrong.

*makes very large stretch of arms*

Jonathan Pearce is getting a bit ahead of himself with the BBC's current HD offerings:

"Don't forget we'll have South Africa vs Uruguay later tonight on BBC One HD... and you can catch all of the day's highlights at 10 on BBC Two HD."

Poor guy. Give him a few months and he'll be cohosting drive time on talkSPORT.

....... and so the tournament is 25% over and that Spain v Switzerland game was by far the best so far.

ITV highlights right now, on their on-screen-scorebar in the top left, it's showing the score as South Africa 1-0 Uruguay - when in reality it's the other way round.

As I type, it's just been faded out. Are these generated live?

I might have smelt a rat if I'd seen them before they got busted. However, Fifa's action has drawn my attention to these ladies and the product they were apparently advertising. I wouldn't have had the foggiest beforehand!

Not just to impress men, girls do get paid to be at a match just to add some eye candy for the TV coverage. You can tell which ones these are, they only get really excited about a match just before they appear on TV Rolling Eyes

Interesting, RTÉ lost picture temporally during the France v Boys in Green (Mexico but that was a side point Cool ) match, so in order to keep coverage going they switched on BBC's pictures, the commentary from RTÉ's team continued uninterrupted but while showing BBC's pictures (after hastily putting back their own scoreboard over BBC's scoreboard ) the pictures were out of sync. Felt like the 6 nations

I wonder how many people will dare watch the match on ITV HD tonight?
