Is page 159 normally there?

ThIs is the emergency information page for the people who work at the BBC.

I noticed that was there, I don't think it usually is... but it was definitely there before the tests

I'm currently unable to check Ceefax, but the information page you speak of was definitely around last year, well before the tests began.

And just for reference, still of the current re-broadcast picture from Mendip:

The quality of my BBC One is terrible as it is so does not give a true representation of what it probably looks like on my local relay of Wenvoe.

BTW - is it just me, or can anyone else notice what looks like a bit of chalk marking/dust on the board in the blank space between the O and Carole's cheek? Can't say I've ever noticed it before, but have just had a good look on my new 26" Samsung, it definitely looks like something's there...

BTW, have noticed a slight ghosting on the signal from CP... I'm pretty sure that wasn't there on my TV when the test card initially popped up!

Yeah there's two marks on the board.

It should be more clearer in HD

It may be my eyes, but I see two small very faint marks, one above the other; the top one being more of a vertical smear, almost impossible to set on my actual TV though.

Which leads me to this - regardless of original signal strength and quality, if I were to simply view the card as shown on my TV set, I wouldn't be getting as accurate a representation as I do on the PC. The computer does tend to show the detail I otherwise would miss.

I'm seeing some very light but severely-shifted ghosting of the diagonals (the two at the bottom are much closer to either side of the BBC logo, for example) evident on the computer's display - yet view it on the TV, and they seemingly aren't there. This is despite both displays being set at default sharpness...

I am intrigued, because I'd never noticed these two marks before, I can definitely see a dot and a smear though - I'm intrigued because the TV i am watching on is a new 26" HD set... and I'm pretty sure you can't get HD pictures on an HDTV by viewing analogue without HDMI on!

A quick jump and fizz on the audio and we're back to normal then straight back to the News.

Re: the visible chalk marks, I think it may be more to do with the screen type.

SD CRTs can mask fine details whereas with something like an LCD, you are more likely going to get 'the whole picture'.

It's not like CRT has everything counting against it though. From my experience, it can effectively be more tolerable to watch a low-bitrate digital channel on a CRT than it is on an LCD, because the CRT will do a better job of smoothing the digital artifacts caused by the bitrate drop!

A jump there and we briefly had North East & Cumbria Ceefax in Scotland before jumping again and TCJ is gone.

Picture jumped again and Ceefax was OFF THE AIR briefly before another jump and all back to normal.
