2006 one of the most exciting, or revolutionising years?

Does anybody else think that 2006 was one of the most revolutionising (if it's a word) years for television presentation?

We've had:

Arrow Total ITV revamp
Arrow ITV 1 new idents later in the year plus a change in the news
Arrow BBC NEWS 24 Countdown music change
Arrow BBC NEWS revamp on BBC ONE
Arrow BBC Breakfast total revamp
Arrow Newsnight revamp
Arrow Newsround revamp
Arrow Working Lunch new studio
Arrow BBC ONE revamp

Have I missed any, or does anybody think any other years might be in the running as the most exciting for television presentation? 1997 perhaps?

Don't forget Five's new idents this year! And one or two new Channel 4 idents.

I wouldn't say that, there did have some of the biggest Programmes this year, and it did Mr Michael Grade's back at ITV

Probably one of the most boring years for me.

A bad thing for ITV in 2006 was the January revamp, bring back the old 4 squares style!

The hype and excitement on TVForum over BBC1's rebrand was a highlight of 2006 for me.

I disagree. I do think the January revamp wasn't great but the current idents are really nice. I personally prefer them to the ones we had last year anyway.

A busier than usual year in terms of presentation matters... still wish Skateboard, Tumbler and Capoeira graced our screens - they were far better than most of the new BBC One idents. I do like Kites, Hippo and Windows but that is it so far.

I think the BBC TWO rebrand will either have us shouting 'bring back the yellow idents' or 'wow these new idents are brilliant!'

Channel 4 have excelled this year with new idents - especially the ones involving the rock formation, pigeons and dockyard settings. They have the right idea about continuity as they allow the idents and voiceover time to 'breathe'.

BBC One seems to fill the junction to the hilt with rather substandard trails on the whole before breezing through the idents! Dean Lydiate (who regularly signs off using his name) is a treat as he utilises his voice fully and uses fantastic phrases like "...BBC News 24 your window on the world...". Most of the on air voices are very boring or wrong for the channels now. There has been one VERY boring female voice on BBC TWO recently followed by a younger man on BBC One (usually into Breakfast) who is too enthuasistic about EVERY programme! Bring back Peter Offer, he like Dean, is a PROFESSIONAL announcer!

I'd hardly say we saw anything revolutional this year - yes, there were changes, but nothing we haven't seen before!

Presentation wise we probably end it better than we started it - mainly thanks to BBC One ditching the dancers, though I'm still not completly convinced by the new idents - I think the idea is good, but the execution could be better.

I think actually now it's the digital channels which are probably excelling their terrestrial counterparts when it comes to presentation as I guess it's important for them to get noticed!

Film4's idents are pretty simple, but very distinctive - as is the rest of the C4 family really. ITV2 and ITV3's idents were always better than ITV1's, while Five Life and Five US have quite nice packages too. I think BBC3 is beginning to lose it's identity a bit though - they've tampered too much with it over the year!

In a word NO!

2002 and 2004 were better for ITV revamps than the 2006 one!
