I was reading this week's Broadcast magazine with great interest. In a two page spread the magazine has asked some of the UK's top TV executives what they think we will be seeing in 2006.

Enter one Simon Shaps, ITV's director of Television who says:
Quote:
"Expect more revival in 2006. Familiar faces you thought had vanished from your screens will return, as will formats that were thought to have found a final resting place on Challenge TV!

Endemol UK's Tim Hincks adds:
Quote:
Hot on the heels of Brucie, Noel & Des, 2006 will see TV's old boys and girls in demand more than ever.

So it looks like it may well be a "back to basics" year!

Oh dear, that just means they have no new talent to offer. How disappointing Confused

Over the last few years... programmes like 'Who Killed Saturday Night Television' have made people realise that it's 90's TV that made us happy. It was easy going and a laugh.

ITV50 gave ITV a chance to bring back the old days, the next item to go retro fashionably looks to be TV.

So Barrymore came back at the right time then... Strike It Lucky here we come! Very Happy

Contestant:Middle... no, wait... Top, yes Top!
*Whaa Whaa Whaa*
Damn... another Hot Spot!

Barrymore: And whats a hot spot not?

Audience: A good one!

Ah.. those were the days...

The thing is Cilla, Brucie, Noel etc HAD talent, the new blood at the time thought they were old hat and dumped them and let's face it who did they replace them with... Ant & Dec! I for one have been waiting for this to happen for years now.

The return of Strike it Lucky/Strike it Rich with Michael Barrymore (not some random presenter like Andy Collins or anyone like that) would be welcome! I hope he wins CBB4! Strike it Lucky was great TV!

Does anyone remember the time when the contestant had forgotton to bring his spectacles and couldn't read the screen over the other side of the studio which had the multiple choice answers on? And Barrymore had to walk the guy over there so he could see it clearly??? Ha ha ha! Classic!! Very Happy

Is that not just reference to the revival of Family Fortunes?

As much as I would like that aswell, I very much doubt that will ever happen. Noel himself said he was embarrassed with the way that the show went in its final years. I don't see him being too keen to revive it at the moment.

So, having failed to create new ideas that work, they're going back to flogging dead horses and ruining all your good memories of average gameshows.

Sounds like a real winner.
