Yes, it's not quite as impressive without the colour effects that the ITV logo had (that was of course the ITV generic logo at the time).

I wonder why they didn't use the ITV one and just put 'S4C' in the bottom strap like C4 did?

It may be "sad" that schools programming on ITV was moved on that date, but consider the alternative.

If schools TV had stayed on ITV, this would be one more PSB requirement that ITV would have pushed aside. The upshot of that would be no schools programming *at all* apart from that offered by the BBC.

At least these programmes still exist.

Sort-of, but look at what C4 puts out as 'Schools' programmes these days. That silly student quiz show thing is not an educational programme. Teen Big Brother? Repeats of programmes from the normal C4 schedule? There is some good stuff in there, but it's all over the place. At least the BBC have stuck to doing proper schools TV.

Yes the S4C one used to scare me - mind you I was 6 years old at the time lol Laughing but it didnt look right at all.

I guess the reason they didnt just use the ITV Schools clock for Welsh programmes was because a lot of the programmes shown on "S4C Schools" were made by the BBC or other production companies so werent anything to do with ITV Schools at all. Ffenestri for example was made by BBC Cymru so it wouldnt have been right having an ITV Schools clock before it.

Thankfully it was only for Welsh programming we had the awful S4C version of the clock. All English language schools programmes had ITV Schools branding, sometimes with the S4C logo in the bottom right hand corner, but often they would just play out the C4 version with the 4 in the corner.

S4C usually opted out on average for 1 or 2 Welsh programmes a day. ISTR in the Summer term there would hardly be any Welsh programmes, it was mainly Autumn/Spring terms.

I only vaguely remember ITV schools when they were on ITV as well. In Reception class (which would have been school year Sept 1985-July1986 for me, we used to watch a programme called "Lets Go Maths" in the tv room every week but I dont remember much about it. It was later replaced by Maths is Fun when ITV Schools moved to C4.

I have in the past seen the ITV Schools on Channel 4 countdown into Let's Go Maths - I'm not sure if that's because it was a repeat. The theme tune for the clock itself is called Just a Minute , while the holding slide uses The Journey . (They're both library.)

Yes there is one here.

Actually the first year of ITV Schools on 4 I was in the last year of infants school so we might have still watched Lets Go Maths - I cant remember, I was more interested in the Just a Minute countdown than the actual programmes themselves! Wink

Was never the same after 1993 when it became C4 schools - a lot of programmes changed. Stop Look Listen and How We Used to Live were 2 of the few classic ITV Schools programmes that remained IIRC.

Not if an adequate regulator was in place!

Although even in the 1980s, schools programming was a bone of contention for some regions. The bigger franchises, ie. Yorkshire, wanted Schools offloaded to C4 as early as 1983 but it wasn't until 1987 that the IBA finally allowed this, satisfied that at this stage nationwide coverage of C4 was adequate to justify the move (ie. users of the Schools service would not be disadvantaged).

(Mind you, imagine not being able to receive C4 until early 1987 and therefore missing out on the non-classical test card tapes? Shocked )

Well this is true, but there hasn't been an adequate regulator in some time.

If the relatively philanthropic YTV of the 1980s was after getting rid, can you imagine how Charlie Allen would have been even with a hard-line regulator?

I'm fairly sure the regulator would have won, and Charlie Allen would for once have had to do as he was told.

Consult a general practitioner immediately, you appear to have been infected with Tumbletowertitis.

What on Earth, in the world, is Tumbletowertitis ? Since when has it existed? Is it just something you've made up?

It's a bit like a comment made by Neil Jones back in April:

What on Earth, in the world, is BoogieBeebieitis ? Again, that has never (to the best of my knowledge) existed. Did Neil Jones make that up?

What sense is there in making up conditions that don't exist?
