I'm really liking this 1997 Year of Chat programme, it's just a random mix of News clips and other chat show clips of the year from all fields, it's proved rather interesting viewing.
A bit disapointed with tonight's "Year in TV" - it was basically a year at the BBC, focusing on just a handful of programmes - This Life, Driving School. I'm Alan Partridge and Teletubbies - and how they were all so original and trend setting!
There was the obligatory footage of the death of Diana - but of course all BBC and seemingly mainly BBC Prime at that!

I caught the last half of it. Any mention of C5's opening ? If not then it's a BBC-centric, poorly researched, cheapskate compilation show. What was that "BBC4 1997 WEEK" DOG all about, trying to attract some zombies over from BBC3 ?
A poor effort by the normally excellent BBC 4.

Nope - only the BBC existed in 1997. The interviews themselves were quite interesting, but it was a shame it just focused on four or five BBC programmes (none of which I really watched!).
I seldom watch BBC Four, but watched the "1997 Week" programme at 9pm last night.
The BBC Four ident that preceeded it has the usual centralised black box logo. But the rest of the ident was people in a Modern Art gallery (or something) gathered around a large glass cuboid, the various coloured-glass panels of which kept changing to different bright colours (as per the colours variously used for the "bottom-right-quarter" trailer endboards).
Have BBC Four completely replaced the "four-quarters/optical illusion/split-screen" style idents withe these "art gallery" ones? Or are the "art gallery" ones just for 1997 Week, or something? If it is a permenant change, when did it happen? And why didn't we know in advance?
The four bold colours of the "art gallery" idents, reminds me very much of Channel 5's original five "candy stripe" colours!

Just a one-off, as outside of the 1997 programming, the usual idents are still in use.
As for the ident, I'm not sure what the significance is to 1997. Appears to be a still shot of people looking at the Damien Hirst pickled shark that's inside the glass.
