1997 Week on BBC Four

Starting this Saturday the 10th March, its 1997 week on BBC Four!!

The Schedule looks a little strange and is VERY different from the normal BBC Four 'Stuff'! They are showing some programmes that we watched in 1997 including:

EastEnders - Ricky and Bianca’s wedding
TOTP - 1997 Xmas Special
Teletubbies - 1997 Episode
Hotel - The complete docu-soap series from 97!

And much More!

Quite a diverse schedule! I wonder what the typical ‘Highbrow’ ‘Artsworld’ type of viewers will think of seeing Teletubbies on the channel?

This seems very strange! Is there any particular reason why they have chosen to go back to 1997 of all years? And do you think they may be using the presentation and idents of that year, or just the standard BBC 4 idents?

One would imagine its to do with the 10 years of New Labour in power...looking back to the culture of a decade ago.

Well, it's one way to justify a bunch of repeats from not-very-long-ago.

Presumably because it was a rather momentous year with events like Tony Blair's election victory and Princess Diana's death... and it's the 10th anniversary.



They had a similar strand a couple of years ago showcasing typical programming from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s and 00s, It was a kind of 'battle of the decades' type thing. IIRC there was some original presentation in there, so it's quite likely.

Election 97, News coverage from Diana's death would be nice to see. Just to see how things have changed over ten years.

And it's 10 years that they have been using that corporate logo, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

and how long has BBCfour been around? 10 years?

No, it was created in 2002, and before that, there was BBC Knowledge, which was created in 1999, so, no.

A celebration of a decade of the sqaures BBC logo.. seen everywhere and nearly branded into the head of Huw Edwards so we didn't forget who he worked for.
