Not to mention the fact the actual studios themselves have gone.

Isn't it basically what was the Good Morning Britain studio that's gone, and MTV are basically building more office space on that site?

I took this in November:

*

Everything to the right of it had been demolished and I assumed that part would be next but I went to Camden a few weeks ago and I'm sure that it was still there (didn't look properly, perhaps someone else can confirm?). Will this part be remaining after all?

I suspect it's still there because if they demolished that too no-one would be able to get into the building. It is going. And this is what it will look like when finished:

This is what it looked like when the studios were demolished:

A much nicer place to work for the employees. And nice to see they're keeping the TV-am colour scheme.

In 1990 when both parties merged, the IBA * just days away from being change to the ITC, made it clear that the Franshie was to be pulled from BSB, and a re months later it was re tended but no one bidded for it.

Does this not prove IBA was just stupid from the start , and tried wasting a lot of money to start someone, would it not have been better if there tried to work with you know who?

No, it proves the were ill-equipped to handle television in an age where the amount of channels available to consumers pretty much doubled year-on-year.

It also proves they had guts to the end.

I notice that two other channels come along before DBS, got started,

* The Children Channel ( in 1984-is this true)
* Super channel ( early 1987)

Both with ITV having there fingers in the pies. Were there really the first Pan euro tv channels, if so why was UK leading the way?

I hadn't been aware that it was retendered, but given that licenses for cable/satellite TV services were going to be available pretty much on demand once the 1990 Act was commenced, why would anyone have wanted to enter into a contract with the IBA which would have put them under onerous programming obligations. Besides, Sky and the speciality channels which were growing up (and without a UK licence) were proving that the DBS franchise was going to become an irrelevance anyway.

Apparently Thames and Central had a share in The Childrens Channel, not sure how long that lasted for.

ITV companies probably bought into Satellite TV as they saw it as the future to an extent, but this was at a time that they weren't allowed to buy each other up. The amount of channels expanded but for ITV they couldn't within their own network, hence why Super Channel launched and bombed. Even though Super failed it didn't stop Thames co-launching UK Gold and Granada starting their venture with Sky.

But of course UK gold become a success Very Happy I'm surprised none of the ITV companies never tried to get into bed with Sky. Saying that Sky tried to sue ITV and BBC for not selling them reruns of programmes, because there wanted to use the programmes them self for the Super channel in early 1986.

I just get the feeling ITV could have made a lot of money if there got in with sky.
