Has anyone seen this new quiz show 19 Keys. Its currently on weeknights at 7:30 on five. Yes five, I was surprised at linking the two, five and primetime quiz. But they have. I presume its a replacement for the live with... style programmes.

The first programme aired this monday featuring four blue peter presenters (five if you count the host richard bacon), they were Peter Pervis, Janet Ellis, Mark Curry & Konnie Huq.

Tonights show was labled as married couples and featured Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee, along with Charles and Diana Ingram.

For those that have not seen yet. The idea is, the four contestants are put inside a soundproof perspex cube in the four corners. In the middle there is a safe (well a button), along with 19 keys.

Each contestant has a screen which features a grid of nineteen numbered squares to represent the 19 keys.

In a series of rounds, contestants answer questions, for every question right, they loose a number on the grid, if they get a question wrong, they get a number back.

The idea is to get rid of 18 of your numbers so that you know which number key is the one to open the safe.

From the start of the first round a clock of starts to count up, along with a money scale, that go up to 15 minutes and £7500. When the 15 minutes is hit, the clock goes to a 3 minute countdown, and the £7500 figure decreases at a rate of £2500 a minute.

Any contestant can stop press the red button on top of their monitor and get 10 seconds to grab a key and try and open the safe (though it is advised to wait until it has reached the £7500 mark). If they get it right, they win, the games ends. If wrong, they are eliminated from the box and the game continues.

Slightly confusing, but a good watch.

Tonight Charles Ingram had eliminated 14 keys, with Paul Daniels eliminating 2, yet when it hit the £7500 mark. Paul pressed the button and went for a key, and won. Ending the show saying, 'Now thats magic!'

If you have seen it what do you think of it?

I've watched it (well I stumbled across it accidentally), and I thought it was a really good gameshow.

Who's on it tonight?

I auditioned for that show a couple of months ago. They showed us the pilot which was even *more* complicated, with a bizzare feature called "lucky Sevens". As we sat and watched the pilot (completely puzzled) they said, "Oh just ignore this bit cos it wont make it into the show". Then they told us that the £15,000 prize was being halfed to allow the budget to run to more shows.

I tuned in to see the finished result and found it to be pretty rubbish actually. He doesnt seem to control the game enough, and for a show that is "on the clock" all the way through he doesnt half waste time.

Oh, and another thing: the perspex cube isn't soundproof, its just a gimmick. It does however serve to make everyones voice echo and sound awful, and NO ONE looks good being filmed from the back and sides.

Sorry - just didnt work for me.

I only saw Monday's edition, but that still had the Lucky Sevens feature in it - and, as you say, it was overly complicated!

Did it? How odd. Unless they showed the pilot - but there were no celebs in the show I saw.

Course it's not soundproofed, as any one who watches any above cube shot from the technocrane will see Very Happy

I think the show has potential. I just think Dickie Bacon is the wrong choice as host. He is too fiddly and too nervey, and takes too long explaining the rules (which I know are not his fault) but I can't see what is wrong starting at £7500, and start the amount counting down during the show.
There should be a certain amount of tension during every quiz show, but in this one it turns up during the final 7 mins of the show, and (in the case of Paul Daniels) ends as soon as it starts.

I like the graphics (Jump) and the music (Paul Ferrier/Rumble) though.

Could do better - 7.5/10.

Also for those who don't know that another ex-game show host Andrew O' Connor (Talkabout, Chain Letters, One To Win) has developed on this format as well as being the Executive Producer of the show.
