Fifteen years ago today was C-Day - all commercials on UK channels are now sourced from 16:9 FH masters. Digital channels could now show ads in true widescreen, but analogue breaks would be ARC'd to 14:9 LB. ITV idents and trailers are also shown in the same manner.

Although I presume most advertisers just cropped their international 4:3 adverts to 14:9 until widescreen/HD was more widespread. And of course the majority of digital channels took years to go widescreen themselves. Comedy Central HD launched before the SD version was even widescreen.

Wonder when C-Day 2 will be for HD delivery of commercials? Wink Sky have already started showing some (actual commercials, not trailers for their own programmes) in HD.
