What is the burst swimming pool story?

As mentioned elsewhere in the thread - my understanding was that the show was going to be made in the UK - but production was halted after a major safety issue (large water tank/swimming pool bursting and taking out camera tower - which could have potentially caused many fatalities if production had been in progress)

Sounds like they may have abandoned UK production and moved to Argentina?

Or two similar productions are being confused?

The initial bumph sent to me indicated the programme was to be shot in Argentina, and that was many months ago.

Perhaps the incident referred to a pilot? Would certainly explain a "temporary" water tank.

Another gameshow related cock-up for the BBC. The following is from Yahoo News. Oops!

BBC gameshow to be reshot

A blunder is forcing a production company to re-record 26 out of 30 episodes of a brand new BBC quiz show, reports The Mirror.

The news follows the discovery that some of the contestants who took part in the filming of upcoming BBC2 gameshow 'Perfection' were able to see a screen that shouldn't have been visible to them, as it was accidentally showing them the answers.

The quiz show, presented by 'DIY SOS' host Nick Knowles, was originally due to be aired this month, but has had to be postponed to later this year.

All of the show's participants are to be recalled so the quiz can be reshot – without any of them being able to see the answers this time, hopefully.

All the costs incurred by the re-recording of the series will be covered by the show's production company – 12 Yard Productions – at no extra cost for the BBC.

I note it doesn't say if prizes had to be surrendered or anything like that though.

That pre-supposes they paid out the money on the day.

I did a show with a cash prize on the BBC (Lion TV) who didn't pay out until the show aired, by cheque; so they may not have paid out at all.

That's the least of their expenses though.

Just out of interest say the show hadn't aired for ages, say a year, surely you couldn't be expected to wait that long?

Why not? I don't recall them making any promise of when monies would be paid.

I'm sure the runner said something about them being paid (perhaps a balance) on delivery of the programme, and in turn they would pay us.

When I did The Weakest Link they gave a cheque to the winner just before we left.

I went on the NBC studios tour in L.A. years ago, and they said the way things were done there was that winners only got their prizes when the show aired (and of course, prizes there are taxable).

I suppose that's fair for a small show who proberly don't have much floating balance, but (without knowing what show it was) if it was a bigger show i would expect them to giveit you you fairly quickly. If I won anything I would expect to receive it within a few weeks.

Whilst it might not be he fairest comparison - If I won the jackpot on the lottery I wouldn't expect to wait ages for it.

I suppose if anything, it's a good thing incase of any problems later noticed before airing ( like the BBC quiz show, where this conversation started from)
