Who voted for this? What a load of rubbish. Watched It! - the website about classic kids TV was pretty disgusted that The Simpsons was voted as the best children's TV show of all time a few years back. I guess there will be a similar article about The Simpsons being voted as the best cartoon of all time.

The problem with The Simpsons being voted as nuimber 1 childrens Tv programme was that it isn't really a childrens TV programme. The simpsons is a fantastic cartoon, others might be better (Futurama and Family Guy *might*). However The Simpsons for the profile, length and sheer stature of the show, make it the top cartoon.

Reaction from South Park regarding their defeat to the Simpsons:

"Oh my GOD! We're not Number One! You *******!"

But if memory serves me correctly on the 100 Children's TV shows, did the Muppets enter at no 2 in the chart when that's not classed as a 100% childrens show either.

This is just cheap TV. Simpsons is on Channel 4 and surprise surprise it gets the top spot. Rolling Eyes It should have retitled it, The 100 'All time' Greatest Cartoons

To be honest I wouldn't class the Simpsons as a 'cartoon' - more an animated comedy.

I think No 1 should have been something by Warner Bros or Looney Toons etc... They are cartoons!!! Smile Rolling Eyes

(and every time I see Jimmy Carr's face...I just want to clean my kitchen floor with it!!! Evil or Very Mad )

Whilst The Simpsons might be debatable, why was Toy Story included as a cartoon?

Because it's an animation hence why it's there, may as well say Wallace & Grommit shouldn't have been there because it's stop-motion.

i enjoyed the 100 greatest cartoons. i was pleased that the simpsons was number 1 but i was surprised to see south park and family guy at number 3 and number 5. i was also surprised to see roobarb right down at number 84! Very Happy

The definition of cartoon is unclear - I consider cartoons to be the traditional animation method, but it could be argues computer generated stuff like Toy Story are the cartoons of the new era.

Re: Thundercats - it was included, around the 50 mark somewhere.

I don't understand why Creature Comforts and Wallace and Gromit were lumped together - or even the likes of Toy Story and Toy Story 2 (though I think in the Film one sequals/trilogies etc were grouped together!).

It's no surprise The Simpsons won (as they did with Greatest TV Character and more dubiously Greatest TV Kids Show) - I imagine a handy link to 100 Greatest Cartoons was on the C4 Simpsons site.

The number of Japanese Anime surprised me - no doubting their quality but they aren't really mainstream!

However, a really enjoyable nostalgic trip - the best of the three recent efforts. I think though they should go back to spliting them over Saturday and Sunday - or if screening all in one go air them on Saturday. They just don't feel right on Sundays!

There was a bit too much of the predictable talking heads comparing everything to being on drugs and taking an ironic stance all the time.

Then of course there was Jimmy Carr yet again, you can hardly get away from him at the moment, that voice and his whole expression gets more annoying in direct proportion to the amount of programmes he is on.

I hate it when people call computer shows cartoons. Things like butt-ugly martians and Sitting Ducks are computer shows.
Not sure about pet alien though...

Computer shows? I always assumed you were a picnic basket short of a picnic but that just seals it.

Yeah, Pet Alien is a computor animated show.

I think it was obvious that the Simspons would win, and not because they are on Channel 4.... they could have still been on BBC2 and won. I honestly would rank Family Guy at number one that is one of the best shows ever, I think the proof of that lies in the fact it's been cancelled twice and brought back twice. I'd the have South Park at 2, 3rd Futurama and the Simpsons no lower than 10th.
