Probably more because it hardly made an impact, if it was a big success it would have continued with another presenter
It ran for four years and the last series was a good 20 episodes. For BBC Four I'd say that was pretty good.
I can only assume it ended because Marcus Brigstoke had other projects.

Brigstocke said it was axed. He has said numerous times he's desperate to host a nightly British version of The Daily Show but broadcasters are hesitent for two reasons. 1) cost and 2) It'll inevetably get compared the the real thing. Apparantly Channel 5 came really close to trying it a couple of years ago but it fell through at the final hurdle for these reasons.

Well, cost is one thing, but Late Edition flopped because it was clear Brigstocke and his writers weren't really that interested in the news, which is always the case with topical satire, they just use it as a peg to hang old jokes off. The Daily Show's writers actually care about the news and have things they want to say, The Late Edition had that idiot Stephen Green from Christian Voice on and Brigstocke made a hopeless job of interviewing him, Green even got laughs and applause, when a programme and presenter that had done their research could have let him look a complete idiot within seconds.
One reason why I'm looking forward to Ten O'Clock Live is that David Mitchell has said they're going to do serious interviews and not go into encounters with politicians with the idea that all politicians are idiots, they actually want to speak to them and hear what they have to say. If what they have to say is stupid, then they can challenge them, of course, but at least it illustrates that they're not just going for cheap laughs.

They've been warmed up too much, or the crowd mics are too loud, or something. But the audience is making this rather irritating to watch.

Oh, this is a lot more boring than I thought. What happened to the lovely studio from the trailer?

I was looking forward to the more News Studio look that was seen in the trailer including the virtual desk!
That couldn't of been a mock up set just for the trailer, is it possible they changed the idea of the set?
