i've just heard that there are to be more +1 hour channels coming to telewest digital

uk horizons+1 (226)
uk style +1 (290)

both will be in line up from middle of this month

i think +1 hour channels are very useful and there should certainly be more whether it be on telewest, ntl, sky, or itvd

what do you think about +1 hour channels? Smile

Fairly pointless really - I appreciate there is a need for them on Sky because of the rather overhelming number of channels - but really I think they should be filling these spaces with channels offering something fresh and different rather than just the same channel on an hour delay.

I definately doubt there's need for them on DTT - I can't comment on Cable as I've not used Cable TV in years.

A +6 channel would probably be better for me, especially with the hours I keep, especially Sky One.

to date, these are the channels that telewest digital are adding this month.

fox kids, fox kids +1, tv5 europe, cbbc, cbeebies, uk horizons +1 and uk style +1

ntl digital people are having about 30+ channels

there needs to be some fresh and entertaining channels
extra film channels would be a start Smile

There needs to be a channel dedicated to no-budget, original comedies/dramas, etc. You can shoot on DV relatively cheaply, and as there is not much money put into it, more risks can be taken. It could also show student films (this has been mentioned before somewhere).

Well, I'd watch it, anyway! Smile

i know filmfour does it with films. i don't have the channel but when i've seen freeviews or if they've been shown on channel4 they are quite good films.

i think that would be a good idea for a new channel. Smile

This was one of the original ideas behind BBC Choice when it launched in 1998. The budgets were tiny, and the then BBC management made much about this breeding innovation and risk taking. Quite a lot of stuff was shot on miniDV (the domestic/professional DV format) rather than the broadcast DVC Pro, DVCam or Betacam SP/SX/Digi/IMX formats.

However it didn't seem to appeal much to the few digital viewers, and much of it was pretty dire IMHO.

It is possible to make cheap television with cheap DV cameras - but often this is achieved by using less well trained staff to light, and operate the camera etc. This was the case with some of the early Choice stuff - where researchers rather than camera ops were camera operating. However innovative this may seem - it seems the majority of viewers just thought it looked cheap.

Hence Choice re-positioned itself pretty quickly - repeating more shows, but making the stuff it did make with much larger budgets. It worked - the viewing figures in share terms for Choice have improved... Though this could be related to CBBC on Choice I suppose Wink

Well, when you put it like that, it doesn't seem quite such a good idea... maybe it's not something the BBC should do, but another company. I'm split two ways on this one - much as I hate incompetent production values, if the material is genuinely interesting/innovative I'd be willing to accept it.

I think they're a good idea, and it can lead to a bit of fun and frolics - i think discovery Mastermind was seen +1. In order to provide myself with an intelligence boost, I saw the non +1 programme (writing down the harder questions' answers on paper) and then when my parents sat down to see the +1 show, I answered a lot of the really tough questions 'no problem'!

I think I've tricked them into thinking I was a genius!

Where did you hear this?

This sounds really cool for NTL.

Which ones are coming on? Because from sites I found I know that CBeebies, CBBC, Discovery Kids, Health, Wings and the other EMAP channels. Does anyone know?Confused
